Default Hydraulic roof leak-Not hoses

I replaced the hydraulic hoses about a year ago after getting the "green shower". Now a slow leak coming from the latch area. Tore the roof apart again and the leak is coming from where the hoses come to an end in a brass looking box with a piston that actuates the latch. Looks like the seal around the piston arm is leaking. Is THIS also a common problem? Do I have to go to the Jag dealer to get this part? What is this part called?

Seems like an easy replacement if I can just get the part. Rather not to the dealer if possible.

Thanks,

Ron

It is unfortunate but yes the seals do push out of the latch and the rams and this is reason #2 for the install of the pressure relief valve. Please read this post https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=48001 Now reading your post I am not sure you are leaking at the hose and the latch piston it either case it is a leak. This link http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepairHydHose.htm will cover the hose and the latch seals and may help you identify the problem. I did a lot of checking around and was unable to find the seals for replacement. I hope this helps!

Thanks Gus. Your write-up walked me through the replacement of the 2 hoses about a year ago. Now, at this point, I am sure that the leak is at the seal around the "piston" that actuates the latch. No leaking around the hoses at all and it is a slow leak, not the raining kind like when the hose blew.

So I have to get the replacement actuator from Jaguar? Any idea what kind of $$ it is?

Thanks for all of your write-ups on this subject. You have saved a lot of us a TON of grief.

You need to check around on line and at Jaguar because they are a bit pricey. I will tell you what I did recently with an item I needed and Jaguar was the only place to get it. The parts guy told me they could get the part and I told them I could not bring myself to pay the price that they were asking, the parts guy told me he was authorized to reduce the price and he did. No harm in asking I do it every time now.

It isn't leaking that much. Over time it has pooled up in the housing for the interior lights. I will take a bath everyday in that oil before I pay $786 for a POS poorly designed part.

We just replaced the MOTOR in this car last month and replaced the poorly designed hydraulic hoses about a year ago. This just finalized my decision to sell this car. That part probably costs $20 to make and they have the gall to put that kind of price on it?

This car is my wife's and she loves the look and drive of it, but even she is tired of the problems. I have a Dodge Viper and it gives me NO problem and looks and performs 10X better. AND the parts are cheap.

I was warned about Jaguars and now I am a believer. I really like the way they look and drive but reliability is a joke.

I wish you all luck with your cars. Thanks for your help.
