Found this is glove box. It’s an estimate. Don’t know yet if work done. Quote 9/23 includes battery. Battery in trunk sticker 9/23.

If done properly you might have really scored a good deal. Fingers crossed for you.

I saw AUTOBAHN and thought it was the one in Fort Worth that I worked at decades ago.

Just pull off both camcovers and check if camshafts are timed correctly. Looks like someone at least think that timing chain tensioners are the problem.

Default Update

Took breaker bar to crank pulley. Didn’t budge a millimeter in either direction.
Put in new battery. Most error messages disappeared.
Positives: top, windows, seats, mirrors all work, all wood trim good, leather 8/10, J-gate no cracks
Negatives: rear view mirror liquid, screen doesn’t work (probably replace with gauges, is the wiring there for gauges?), broken glove box latch, visor mirror covers missing (of course)

Not sure I’m loving these 20” deep dish wheels. 245 front 275 rear Advanta brand tires16k miles. Could use some polishing. If anyone within driving distance of Pensacola wants to switch send me a PM with a pic of yours.

No, the wiring is not there for the gauges. However, our member WhiteXKR has created a retrograde conversion wiring harness and can sell you the gauges too, or you can find them on ebay. You'll also need new wood veneer trim pieces, at least for the center section, or the entire dash if you want all the wood to match. This is what I did in my 2001 and I think the triple gauges look much better than the original Nav screen and much more classic and appropriate to the vehicle.

WhiteXKR also created the RealGauge, which converts the coolant temperature gauge to read true coolant temperature, instead of the needle pointing at the middle as long as the coolant temp is between about 180°F and 238°F. And, if you do the triple-gauge conversion, he can sell you an additional kit to make the oil pressure gauge true reading as well.

WhiteXKR's website is:

https://www.thejagwrangler.com/

Cheers,

Don

Regarding the 2023 repair estimate, have you reached out to the shop to confirm if they performed any of the suggested work? Only three years old so they should have a record.

No. Going to work on this weekend. Will pull starter on small chance jamming engine. Drop pan and look for metal. Cut open oil filter. Removing valve covers will show if 3rd generation tensioners.

Fortunately our chain tensioners were replaced in 2012 by previous owner at 52K miles. At that late date, most likely the final generation tensioners were installed.

Dropped oil pan.

Good news. All bushings, ball joints and wheel bearings good.

either way, something happened that was not supposed to happen. But it was fixed half ***, ie they don’t clean out the pan, which is basic repair procedure.

Third gen tensioners so it looks like the work on the estimate was done 15k miles ago.

Was going to pull started to see if possibly jammed but since metal in pan probably won't help. Also, seller told me engine locked up when his kid was revving it.
