There are harder DIY, I would put removing the rear shock and coil assembly, and returning it back into the suspension as being my top 'ball-breaker' project. The ball joint separation from the front steering knuckle was a very close 2nd!

Convertable top hoses, just for the sheer volume of little things that have to be unfastened, broken and lost.

I'll have to go with the fuel pump also. I have long skinny fingers, and couldn't get within 2" of the quick connectors above the differential.

The Jag engineers must have really been comedians--thinking what they would be doing to future mechanics. At least the fuel pump is an inexpensive Taurus part.

And to think this is a 2.2 base hour job--naah!

I just sent my XK8 to a good Indy to get the tank pulled.

Actually the head liner was a PIA. Getting in the front part on no big deal, but around the back window - no thanks.

Default heater hose issue

I advise spending a few minutes at Sears.com and buying the cable type hose clamp tool. Made my job easier. Snap on has it also.

I have that, and it did make removing most of the clamps easy enough. It's changing out the hoses to the little water pump under the firewall hump that is the killer.

Once you get good at pulling the transmission out the hoses are very easy. ;-)

Smile O2 sensors

O2 sensors these are pigs to get out. I had to remove the cat converters on both sides. Getting to the 3 nuts and connectors at the top is a pig. If you ever do this job replace your tranny fluid and the electrical connector plug gromits as with the cat out the way its easy.

Default Tough DIY

I just untangled, re-strung and fixed the upper pulley on my right rear window mechanism, talk about a pain. NOT looking forward to the left one when it is due.

you know saved, the members are still looking for a good DIY with pictures on repairing/replacing a broken rear window regulator, restringing that pulley system, and adjustment...any chance you took any pics and can do a writeup? The rear windows are just now getting some frequent requests on the forums. You'd be a hero, and be immortalized on the XK8-XKR FAQ threads

simon
to do the little heater hoses you need to remove the left side cat to get to the little water pump tucked above the tranny.

Default RE: window

H2Oboy, no i did not, as I was in a hurry, however, I will make a detailed write up of instructions and post, and then when I have that side off again to replace the latch hoses (ordered and waiting) I will take pictures and update it.

^ I know it would be much appreciated, we all know how much time it takes to document such a project for others to follow.

Heaterhoses, timing chain tensioners, headliner, pulling the transmission is all easy.

Getting the antenna out and back in again is a PIA in a way that you have to remove all that stuff to get this single item out.

No one tackled a front wheel bearing yet? I had one rescently where every nut was rusted on so had to change every ball joint and track rod end.
I then had to split and replace the ABS nut, I manage to bend a 6ft length of 2" box section 1/4 thick wall trying to get it undone, and this was suppose to be a 'while you wait' job, took 3 days
