Default inconsistent, jumpy acceleration - need advice

Hello and thanks for reading. I need some advice about my 2000 XKR.

I've owned this beautiful automobile for about a month, and I've begun to notice that the acceleration is not very linear or consistent, and is in fact rather jumpy while getting up to speed.

At times the car does not seem to pull out the power that I'm sure it should have.

Do any of you have experience with this? Amy suggestions or advice as to what I should be looking at, before I take it to a service center?

Thanks!

A good atart at troubleshooting would be to read the OBDII fault codes (free at many auto parts chains) and also to inspect the supecharger belt.

In the future, please post in the 1996-2006 XK8/R section...this forum is for the later models.

Thanks for the help on both accounts.

I was using a mobile app rather than the actual website and I did not see that I was in the wrong place.

I did ask a shop read the codes while they were replacing a flat, and they found a code that they said was related to the security system. They cleared it for me but I noticed no change in behavior.

I will likely take it to a Jaguar service center.

There are many Jaguar specific codes that give unusual readouts with generic devices. It is better if you get the actual code and report it here, or download the codes from the DIY sticky.

An update on my concerns here.

Took it to the Jag shop and there were no codes. It also hadn't acted up the day prior or for the service tech during a test drive.

Possibilities the tech noted as a cause of misbehavior were:
Rear tyres are at the wear mark.
Aftermarket cone filter.
Traction control cutting the power.

It's hard to say without a code or at least some more context for when the problem occurs.

If it were the traction control you should see a yellow light on the dash indicating that it has kicked in.

Does it matter how long the car has been running? A cone filter on the engine bay sucks hot air, so as the engine warms up you may notice a decrease in power.

Another thought might be a failed intercooler water pump. Similar behavior, the longer the car runs the intercooler water gets hot and power decreases, maybe even to the point of detonation occurring.

When they key is on and engine off, you should hear a whirring sound from the right front of the engine bay, below where the air cleaner is.

It took me a while to figure out the traction control is a bit heavy handed. Turn off the DSC and see if acceleration improves (or tire smoking begins). :-)

The intercooler possibility seems the most promising so far. I want to think it was just me not getting along with the traction control, but there were days when I knew for certain that something could not be working properly. I'll post back as this situation unfolds.
