Default Intake gaskets

Hi folks, having a problem with reduced performance and occasional check engine light. Scanner p0304 multi times. Today has gone into its first engine miss and limp home mode.

Spray a bit of carb cleaner around # 4 and 5 cyl intake and end up with a misfire.
Have changed plugs, coil pack, swapped coil packs. Injectors do have steady equal ping, fuel pressure is good.

I am thinking intake gasket. Is it very hard to change. Any caution areas you can think of.

Thanks all. Rich

Try a very through cleaning of the throttle body connections with a contact cleaner. Hose it down and see if your trouble goes away. The plug in connections cause all sorts of problems, do both!

Try using BG44K in the fuel and see what takes place first. I see no need to pull the intake manifold unless it has a leak and you can test that with a smoke test or just spraying throttle body cleaner around the gasket.

Thank you for your recommendations. I did a read. not sure if it points to anything specific.; Po303,304, 1316, p0352, 353, 355, 358, 1000 and 1368. These codes came up a second time after clearing. Thank you Rich

It is a fuel delivery system cleaner. You pour it into your gas tank....

Sounds like what I am going through with my '97. Only I get P0308/P1316. Usually runs normal when first started but after a mile or so a miss develops and gets worse the more you drive it.
What I have done so far:
Replaced all spark plugs.
Swapped cyl8 coil twice.
Swapped ignition modules.
Sent the ECU to ASI and they found no problem with it.
Put BG44K in tank but can't drive it long before it gets CEL then Flashing CEL/Restricted Performance.
Cleaned MAF and Throttle body, twice.
Sprayed Carb Cleaner around intake and hose connections I could get at. No obvious leaks.
Replaced the fuel filter in case I had gotten a bad tank of gas that plugged it up. The old filter only had about 600 miles on it and looked clean inside.
Tomorrow I am replacing the cyl 8 injector but I suspect that isn't going to fix it either.

Seems like you have also tried most of that stuff already.

We have had a few cars with the #8 misfire and I am anxious to see what you all come up with.

If you had sprayed around the intake and it caused a misfire then you may have a gasket leak or a cracked intake manifold like I did. I would suggest having a smoke test done to verify what you have going on. I say this because I had replaced my gaskets and it was a cracked manifold so I had to do it again. A cracked manifold is often caused by someone spraying starter fluid to get the car started.

I'm begining to think the P0308 is a red herring and the problem will be something totally unrelated to that cylinder in particular.

There have been 4 different OBDII readers tried along the way and they all say P0308/P1316.

When mine failed for the first time it was on a 300 mile round trip with about 40 miles left. Was going a steady 55 with the CC on and had to stop for a light. My mistake was that I had just commented to myself how damn nice it was running and then the light turned green and when I started to accelerate (slowly as there was a semi ahead of me) thats when it started doing it.
And it still seems to run normal from a cold start and it fades in after a mile or so but putting a load on it like going up a hill brings it out faster. Never any funny noises or rattles etc. No fluid loses or overheating or low oil etc.

Default Techron

I would guess the Techron by Chevron is a similar type cleaner. I used 2 containers. No change. Thank you Rich

Rich - take a look at the following thread - starting at post 14 - RaceDiagnostics made a smoke tester and included a video
