key fobs not working after car been laid up
I have just picked my car up (XKR 4.0 2002), after a 3-month wait while the bodywork was being fixed, and when i came to use the key fob it did nothing. i locked the door with the key while i left the vehicle for a few minutes, and when i used the key to unlock it, the alarm went off and wouldn't react to the fob, but the car started OK and the alarm ceased to sound.
I took the car home and tried the other fob, same result, so i put brand new batteries in both remotes and did a hard battery reset while i charged the battery overnight. but in the morning on reconnecting the battery the remotes still don't work. I have just found a procedure on the internet to reprogram the remotes, but i don't want to risk doing that if it might be a fuse or something! Any ideas anyone please?

If everything else is working fine then you don't really have anything to lose by trying the fob reprogram procedure.

Well, i tried the procedure to reset the fobs but to no avail, the car seemed to do its bit, the light on the transmission flashed as it should, indicating having entered programming mode, but neither key fob seemed to be doing anything and certainly didn't indicate any communication with the car! Everything else on the vehicle seems to work, just not the remotes. They both worked fine for the whole of the 3 and a half years I've owned the car, so i have to work out what has caused this while it has been in the body shop!

Key fobs not working after bodyshop repair
HI,
Wanted to share my similar experience: both my key fobs suddenly had very poor range (1m, over the rear window) after a bodyshop repair. Eventually traced the fault to the receiver in the SLM module in the boot/trunk. There's another thread about it (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...attery-185694/ ).
I think the bodyshop used heat to cure the paint applied to the boot and possibly this caused the RF receiver in the SLM to suffer heat damage and fail.
Anyway, hope this helps, symptoms sound familiar.

Thanks Simon, that sounds plausible, as the paintshop uses a heated booth and the work i have had done is right where the Security module is!, I must admit i was more worried about the LPG tank blowing the workshop up!
I'll remove the fuse box and see if i can get the module out, and report back for any interested members!
