Question Key remote fob replacement UK

A question for UK owners

Have had the XK8 for a month yesterday and it only came with one key and fob.

It appears that my key needs to have an 8 cut blade. I have looked on eBay and the only remotes with the folding key has 6 cuts. (About £13 4D60 or £25 ID60) I was thinking of getting one and then having a separate key cut.
Therefore the folding key would be useless.

* Does the 4 button fobs only have to be 433mhz. (UK) Will both a ID60 or 4D60 work with 2002 XK8
Or are there other requirements?

* I was wondering if any of you on the UK side of the pond has had a key (with transponder) cut at Timpsons with success?
I have been quoted £65 for key with transponder or £200 with remote. So I was going to go with the separate approach to save a minimum of £110.

Or Does anyone know where. I can source a folding 8 cut key / remote fob in the UK? Doesn’t have to be OEM.

I don’t wish to resort to cannibalising a transponder chip as described elsewhere on the forums

My remote is LJE2610.BB

I went to Timpsons for the key. They cut a new key for me an mapped it to the car. about £95, worked a treat.
Got a fob from ebay and programmed it to the car just fine.

YES - European 433mhz is essential for your UK specification vehicle. North American 315mhz will not work.

You are in luck as the "new" remotes started in 2001 and are widely available. As you pointed out, you need the folding key fob (buy a couple). These can easily be paired to the car with a simple procedure (check the stickies). To my knowledge, there is a sequence of button presses that can switch between US/UK frequencies if needed. It has been posted on this forum before. For the mechanical key, you need a TIBBE 8-cut. There is a vendor on the classifieds section of this site as well as eBay vendors. This new key stem will have to be filed/shortened/adapted to the fob with a little bit of hand labor. To be able to start the car, you will need a Megamos ID48 transponder chip. It just needs to be stuffed in the body of the flip key, as close to the key base as possible. These chips are available out there (check eBay) and are pretty inexpensive. They do not always list Jaguar, but the VW models are the same, I believe. Be sure to buy in new condition as a used one could be locked to a brand other than Jaguar. Last step is to pair the car with the chip. This is typically done with the SDD laptop software, but some handheld devices are able (claim?) to do this (Foxwell NT510). For this entire procedure (fobs and chips) there is no adding, only replace, so be sure to have all your keys available at the same time (including valet if you have it).

Definitely a multi-step process, but well worth it in the end.

Thanks fmertz for your response.
I am still working my way thru my snag list & I have read many of your helpful posts on other threads/matters.

I couldn't seem to source a folding remote/TIBBE 8 cut key here on ebay (UK). They were all 6 cut.
I did previously read the nice project that had been posted on these forums and it does seem worthwhile, however I only have the one key and have been paranoid about accidently putting in down in the boot (trunk) and closing it.
Even when I know its in my pocket I have to do a double check and physically take it out, look at it & then put it back in my pocket, before closing the boot. OR make sure the vehicle is unlocked.

The traders/vendors on these forums all seem to be in America or Canada.
Its more of a pressing matter of getting a spare, just in case I lose my only set. (don't even have a valet key)

I have even made a note of the TIBBE code. It gives me a get out of jail free card if I lock it in the boot at least.

I managed to source an genuine brand new blank Jaguar key (with transponder) for £10 ($13) and a new remote fob that looks almost identical to the original for £26 ($34). Both should be arriving in the post today.

The key will need programming and cutting. Timpsons in the UK will do that for you if you phone them up they will tell you which branch to go to.

The fob must be the same number Mine is LJE2610BC for my 2003 4.2. The early cars had a different two letter at the end, they are not compatible as I understand it.

Timpsons here in the UK supply and will program fobs and keys for you.

I have spoken to the nearest branch to me and they quoted me a price for the key, I was just wondering if any had actually used them succesfully.
I'm also hoping that they will cut and programme the genuine Jag blank I have just bought instead of a generic one they might stock.
I'm going to program the remotes myself. My original fob ends BB.

That is correct, but the short 6-cut stem can easily be removed (just a pin to push out) and can be replaced with what remains when a 8-cut key had had its handle forcibly removed (e.g. melt it with a heat gun). The 8-cut stem is a bit too long and needs to be "worked" (file, etc) a bit to fit in place, then the pin can be pushed back in place to secure the new stem.

You surely already found this, right? diy-flip-key-conversion-without-reprogramming-guide-pictures

Well I went to Timspons and they said they couldn't do an 8 cut TIBBE in the shop, only a 6 Tibbe. It can only be done in a Timpson Branch in Manchester.
(About a 6hrs round trip as a point of reference for our American cousins across the big pond)
So, they have posted it and I hope to have it ASAP.

fmertz, Yes thats the very post I looked at. Nice job.

I did however manage to program the new remote fob, along with the original in about 2 mins.

Now i'm moving on to WD40 silicon greasing the doors latches to see if I can get the central locking working properly.
If it doesn't I'll have to wait for more favourable weather. If I have to resort to removing the door cards.
Ditto for some of my other snag list projects.

Back to research mode on these forums ;-)

UPDATE:
The spare 8 cut TIBBE key has returned from the Timpsons Manchester branch & the car was coded to it & the original with no issues in the local Branch.

So, info for others in the UK; who need an 8 TIBBE key cut and use Timpsons; may find that their local branch may not be able to cut it, even though they can programme the car to the Keys.
NOTE: Ensure that when it comes to getting the car coded to the keys stage, that you have ALL copies of your keys with you and hand them ALL over.
The coding is done after the key or keys have been cut.

Hope that this info is of use to someone else in the UK.

Default Bad News

Hi Guys

Like lots of the threads above, with of my 2005 XK8s key fobs have a range of around two feet.

I then saw some bright spark suggested soldering a small wire on the inside of the key fob, which I did, only just touched the solder onto the wire, fine....NEVER DO THIS, finished the fob off , even paid £40 on ebay to "automobile -locksmith" sent it back to me as dead as when I sent it, and although I had it checked at a local garage and the guy tested it and assured me that it was dead and was not transmitting, the guy who I sent it too kept saying it was fine, and now it is more or less impossible to get your money back through eBay as a buyer, another lesson learnt, be very wary of ebay unless you are sure you are dealing with a reputable dealer.
So Never....NAVER use this company, perhaps they are alright if you want a button changed, but otherwise the blokes a scammer.

Instead of starting a new thread, let me ask my question here. Is there a source for replacement fobs in the USA? Or a reputable place for repairs? 2000 XK8.There used to be a seller on Amazon but they no longer have Jag fobs.

I have two fobs. I replaced the batteries, first using one CR2032 (didn't work) and then two CR2016. I then tried to sync them with the car. One fob is completely dead. The other only the headlight and trunk buttons work.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Check the FCC number on the back of your current FOB. The ones for sale on eBay with the same FCC number should work.

The fob takes 2 x CR2016 batteries.
Some have managed to clean the contacts on the pcb and rubber conductive pads with isopropyl alcohol or similar

Make sure you're sat down if looking at a replacement:- it's the earlier non-Ford fob prior to MY2001.
Jaguar will sell you a new one for north of $350.

Of course, the s/h sellers are aware of this...

Default Xk8 equal lje 2600 key fobs info

Hi Guys.

Hopefully some who are looking for replacement XK8 key fobs, which are getting hard to get hold of, and increasing in price, this may prove useful. One of my fobs packed up, dead, can't be repaired, so looked for another in all the usual places.
I am looking for an LJE 2600-BC, as my Jag is a late 2005. Eventually found one on Eurojag for £77, so bit the bullet and bought it.
Arrived today, but although advertised as BC, it was in fact BB, now, as I am one of those people whose glass is always half empty, I feared the worst, however went to the car, went through the programming cycle and........"Hey Presto" it works, if only I had known that, as on ebay the BB fobs were cheaper, but I didn't think they would work.
Perhaps even the BA fobs might work?, possibly, but FOR DEFINITE both the BB and BC work equally as well as each other.
So hope this might help somebody out there.
Spoiler

In the USA the AB - AC are interchangeable (probably AA too if it exists)

I think matching the FCC ID is the most critical.
