Hello,
The alarm system cannot be deactivated. It is activated when the car is locked. This is a legal requirement for registration. Even with the original Jaguar diagnostic device, i.e. WDS or IDS, the alarm system cannot be deactivated.
You can forget what I wrote about a possible defective microswitch in the door lock. Sorry, that was a mistake on my part. To my knowledge, the alarm system is activated in all Jaguar vehicles when you open the door with the key. This is intentional to make theft more difficult. The alarm system can only be deactivated automatically using the remote control. If I remember correctly, this is also stated in the operating instructions.
Therefore, the tip from user 42324, i.e., disabling the steering wheel memory function, is a useful aid in getting to the ignition lock more quickly.

Best regards, Willi

That's what I thought, everything is doing exactly what it's supposed to, I was just wondering if there's a fiddle to get it to do what I want it to.

The only thing you can do is use IDS/SDD to turn off the need to disarm the alarm with the key in the ignition after you unlock the door. If you look in your driver's manual you will see the UK and US cars behave differently. In short you want the US version, which has the alarm turn off with the drivers door unlock.

ETA grabs from the drivers manual. It would be handy for one of our US members to confirm if this is the case:-

Yes, That’s exactly the way it works on my (USA) 2002 XKR.

If you know anyone who is a radio amateur or has a scanner, he will be able to test the fob is producing a signal (the European system idiotically operates in the UHF amateur band).

If the fob does prove to be dead, then it may be more cost-effective to source a Ford 4-button part for your 4.2L, rather than having your existing one refurbed. More common, hence much cheaper than Jaguar.

I'm sure you realise, but just to be certain, if you have to buy some fobs it's the 433 MHz ones you need.

So in theory can I just buy a Ford four-button 433mHz fob from the internet, follow the resetting procedure in the car (five flashes of the headlights etc etc) and I'll have a new working fob?

Mmmm. Apologies. I may have started down a rabbit hole

The post-2000 security system uses Ford fobs, but I've been searching the internet and the ones I find are all US versions. There are many options on Ebay & Amazon (UK) proclaiming 433MHz, but show an FCC ID - which is meaningless in Europe.

I'm trying to find the equivalent european approval.

In the meantime, as you have a coupé. it's worth checking that the fob antenna lead stud hasn't detached from the antenna 'printed' at the inside top of the rear window glass. The cable is partly hidden by the headlining - this post from Ray1000 shows what it looks like:

If you could, that would be excellent. Or even better, if anyone could provide a link to a cheap four-button UK fob that I could program myself, that's the ideal outcome.

If there's any doubt about the fob being correct, then check it looks like one on the right in this post of motorcarman's:

... and should be labelled 'LJE2610BC' (or...BB) on the back.

I can't find anything conclusive. The EU approval just seems to be CEPT-LPD 0682 which isn't in any way specific.

I'd suggest verifying the fob is transmitting before spending any $$$, as it could be a fault elsewhere. Did the antenna connection check out OK?

Very helpful, it's a "yes" to all of the above so it seems to be the right fob.

I'll have a look at the antenna when it stops lashing it down with rain. 🙂
