tanngo, are you saying that you are hearing a 'blowing' type of noise rear of the throttle body, maybe under it? A slight air noise is normal on mine, maybe even more pronounced on an XKR with the SC, I am not sure.

Now, a smell of exhaust, that is a different matter altogether. I've not heard of any exhaust manifold leaks with that range of 4.0L engines. If you're sitting still, engine running, you may be smelling the exhaust that is surrounding the car, it will be heavier than air until it becomes dispersed in time.

If the exhaust is leaking at the manifold, I am pretty sure the 02 sensor data would trigger some kind of fault, a check engine light, and perhaps the engine would not run smooth.

I am not totally confident in my statement, so If anyone else can chime in, that'd be great.

noise-like rattling at cold startup could be indication of timing chain tensioner problem. I'd inspect them if you haven't already done so, just for peace of mind. Or it could just be circulating oil before the valves are fully lubricated?

That should be an easy replacement, but unfortunately, I haven't had to do mine or seen how to take one out. Do you have the jaguar technician information system CD? if not, it might have the procedure step-by-step.

It sounds like the EGR pipe is leaking.

Default There is a TSB for this repair

Tanngo-
The original 2000-2002 XKR EGR tubes often cracked. Now there is an updated part. There is a factory TSB for this procedure. I have attached it. I hope it helps you. I have only the pages that apply to the XKR, so it may look like there are some pages missing.
