Question Missing Security Module XK8 2000

Hi Folks,
Bought a year 2000 Jag XK8 Coupe a couple of weeks ago and well pleased with it apart from the usual age related issues, mostly electrics.
Discovered that the Key Fob didn't work at all so paid for it to be serviced. Got it back and tried it after re-programming it in the suggested way, but no joy!
Have now discovered that the Security Module LJB2600BC/012 is probably MISSING as not anywhere in the trunk/boot that I can see.
Wow. Looked all over the trunk area but could only find two hanging multi way connector blocks lying loose behind number plate area in trunk????
No sign of an antenna wire either.
Have looked around battery area and adjacent fuse box etc. No joy either.

Could probably purchase a new module but then stuck with potential lack of antenna.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received naturally.

The SCLM is located on the underside of the fuse box in the boot. If you can start and drive the vehicle the SCLM is in place, you get nothing when turning the ignition key with the SCLM missing.
You should research using the advanced search feature at the top page banner and get the detailed steps for programming the remote to the car. If the FOB isn't working I would check the antenna connection and make sure it is clean and secure.

Thanks for that speedy reply Vern.
Is the underside of the fuse box reachable without disturbing the fuse tray?
Also would I have to lift that all out to see if the antenna is ok and secure?

Check the security antenna connection to the aerial on the rear screen (arrowed in red).

The connection is easily dislodged when cleaning the inside of the glass.

OK will go and check that connection and thanks for that. That's a great looking Jaguar by the way.

Hello again Vern,
you were right of course. Found the SCLM underneath the fuse tray inside the boot.
I also checked (just touch and visual) the connector from the rear window onto the module. They seem secure but will meter them tomorrow if weather clears.
I'm concerned about disturbing the fuse tray to get underneath it to the SCLM. Any issues in that area I should watch out for?
I'll also check the fob reprogramming guides as you mentioned.

Many thanks,

Ted.

Since the only thing you have done was have work rebuilding the key fob, I am not convinced you need to go through removing the fuse box and unplugging the SCLM. The box is not all that tough to remove and turn over but due to age the plastic parts risk of damage is high. So unless you are sure the problem is there I would leave it lie.
1. The FOB you have was it working before?
2. If it was working was it just beginning to get weaker?
3. If it wasn't working are you sure you have the right frequency transmitter?
4. It may sound sound strange but are your batteries installed correctly?
5. Last try the below again before going further. Keep in mind if you only have 1 fob you will need to press it 5 times to simulate 5 fobs for programming to complete. Anything less is a NO GO.
Get in and shut the door
Put key in ignition, don't turn yet.
Pull the turn signal arm towards you until Headlight brights come on and hold.
Move key to accessory, release the indicator handle
Next pull the indicator again to you 4 times, console light should come on showing program mode.
Click your Key Fob (since you only have the one) 5 times.
Turn off the ignition key exit the vehicle and test the FOB.
6. If it doesn't program that way have a partner hold the FOB and try programming near the SCLM.

Hello again Vern.

Tried all of your valuable suggestions as follows:

Key Fob sent away for investigation/repair. Covering letter stated I had fitted two new batteries without success)
[Unit came back still not doing its job! Checked batteries and found one was duff!!! Put another two new ones in - no joy]
Sent away for an RF?Frequency tester. On its arrival established that Fob was sending out good signal at correct frequency, so tried again following exactly your action plan etc. Still no joy.

When I follow all of your advice items, I do not get any of the following:

No indication of "Program Mode" ,
No audible tones whatsoever,
No LED lamp lighting next to J gear selector.

What I do get is :

Doors/trunk lock/unlock via key only.
Engine starts ok and performs as should.

Any thing else I should try before getting firelighters out?????

Thanks,
Ted

Default Have you checked out the YouTube series To The Garage

Ted,

Have you seen the To The Garage YouTube series by John. Two episodes cover the troublesome Jaguar keyfob.

Simple cleaning contacts within the Keyfob

Programming the Keyfob with the Car.

I've never needed to do this, so good luck.
