Default More Power!!!

Ok guys, my car was originally 360BHP, but that was 10 years ago.... Any ideas how to get it back up there? I had a look on the K+N website, but they don't make systems for an XKR.

ps, I mean cheap ways i.e under £300. I don't want to rebuild the engine or anything

What makes you think you have lost power?

Good start is always to ensure everything is in tip top shape, i.e. gaskabel adjustment to basic stuff like air filter, plugs, possibly an emission test, checking obdii parameters etc. all to ensure the engine is running properly as it should.

Then you could do a base dyno run to establish the current power levels, as all might already be ok.

Last pending the above costs, you might still have some left from the $300 which could be enough for a K&N panel filter, though you will never feel the difference though.

Did you see the thread about adjusting the throttle cable? It stretches over time, and even though you have the gas pedal to the floor the throttle may only be 80% open. Look in the FAQs. You'll find instructions on how to adjust it.

OK, are we going to get into that throttle cable adjustment thing again? Is it "extra power", or "restore original power"? I checked mine, and it did not require adjustment. However, when I bought it, the previous owner had some rather thick floor mats in it and the one on the driver's side went up under the throttle pedal and stopped it from going all the way to the bottom.

+1 Lots of good advice above. Spend first on getting her working perfectly.

If then you are still not satisfied, there are some options, especially with an 'R', but big gains do not come cheap.

Also, keep in mind that these cars are designed to be at their best power-wise accelerating at high speeds, they are not particularly fast off the line.

Not particularly fast off the line? It's faster than a porshe 911 and the same as a top end BMW M3. So quick enough. But thanks everyone for all the advice. It was going to the dealer next week, but I'm away working for a couple months, so will let you all know early summer if i notice any improvements after the work.

Cheers

Mike

To be clearer, my comment was in reference only to the differential gear ratio, which is optimized more for fuel economy than agressive starts.

I'll second Mike (White XKR). While it is fast off the line, could be faster. The efforts of the car aren't channeled in 0-60 (0-98/100) times.

Do as Avos said, check all the piddly little basic things before you attempt to exponentially increase your HP. Do some quick searching through the pages in this forum and the Engine Tech one and you will see some ideas/projects/options that are out there and in most cases associated costs.

The one option you may have is getting in contact with XKRacer from this forum. Do a search for some of his threads.

As WhiteXKR mentioned, you do have more options with the XKR than you would have with an XK8. Probably the easiest thing you could do would be to change the supercharger pulley to give you more boost.

That does work, and gives fair bang for the buck, to a point...but the intercooler temperatures rise quickly with the extra boost...reducing performance back down again...which leads you to wanting a more expensive intercooling upgrades or killer chiller, etc.
