Default My convertible top now operates like new :)

Since I bought my xk8 second-hand, the top has operated very slow - sometimes pausing midstream. Thanks to advice on this forum, I was able to locate the reservoir and noticed it was low. I read that Pentosin CHS-11 is the proper fluid, and I found that O'Reillys Auto carries it on the shelf. I drained out all older fluid (since I read older fluids may not be compatible), then replaced with all new 11.

She now goes up & down like a dream

Thank you everyone for your contributions on this site!

Glad to hear the good news. It's great how fresh fluids can sometimes get these systems operating normally again (same goes for the quirky ZF transmissions)....

You have to enjoy the cheap fixes when you are lucky enough to find one

Congrats on the top. Now go out and pick-up an umbrella for the impending shower

I'm surprised Jaguar hasn't recalled these cars & implemented a permanent fix.

I'd think that people getting 1600 PSI of hot hydraulic fluid in their eyes would cause quite a few lawsuits...

Ah, but, not necessarily for us '97 owners. The early ones had a different hose spec and most of us have never had the ubiquitous green shower. Mine is one of the later '97s with a June build date. Not sure when the original hose spec changed.
