Default New engine BUT same problem

My engine started missing.....It turned out that a valve seat had come out and engine was ruined???? Bought a low mileage replacement engine and installed it.....Same problem exists with replacement engine.....she misses on #5,6,7 and 1....she has compression and spark ?????
It seems to me to point to the computer.....What else could cause the missing other than the computer on both these engines? Also, the missing temporarily dissapears at running speed sometimes.
Cant the computer be checked at the Dealers or is there a place to get used or rebuilt computers?
ANY suggestions will be greatly appreciated......

First did you do a hard reset after the change and is the battery fully charged? You can send your ECM to ASI and have them check it as I did this would avoid the reprogramming. If it comes back as being ok then I would suggest getting readings on the engine performance such as the codes and LTFT. This would give everyone a real picture of what is going on.

Thank you for answering! I have no clue as to where the trouble lays and when I looked at tha ASI web site it stated it would be $350.00 for a rebuild. Do you now of anwhere that can test the unit for a lesser rate? $400.00 is a bit of a hit if it is does not need a rebuild.
Thanks !

Codes: Engine fault codes, can be retrieved with a code reader (OBDII)

LTFT: Long Term Fuel Trim Retrieved from a code reader that can show you live data (check this FIRST before erasing any codes or unplugging battery.

Neither do we! Without the codes and LTFT’s it is guess work. As for the ECM rebuilding what you have is less aggravation than getting an ECM that matches your car and having Jaguar reprogram it to the car. ASI can test the ECM and if no repairs are necessary then I would think it would be a small setup fee to test it. You should call and ask. I had mine repaired and it is working just fine.
See if someone near you has the test equipment to get the codes and LTFT for you then post them.

ASI charges $55 to test the ECM. That cost is applied to the rebuild if it is needed and if it can be rebuilt.

I had the EMC in my then 97 XK8. Sold it but know the current owner no problem since, 2009. I have used ASI a few times. Good outfit.

Is this the same ASI that is allegedly giving another forum member poor customer service over a throttle body?

I called Jaguar, they told me the cat on that side may have failed due to a slow responding O2 sensor, and the heat is what took out your valve seats and may have damaged your injector o-rings and nipples and spark plugs.

With car running at night, see if it glows red while revving the engine .If it does, replace the converter(bolt on) and both O2 sensors, and plugs as needed. Also make sure all 8 plugs are the same.

If it has failed you, there are plenty on ebay OEM( $390+) or you can go universal(you bring the converter assembly exhaust shop and they weld it on($75 labor,$130 part).
