Default NEW Shocks question regarding Bilsteins on partsgeek.com

OK...so im replacing front suspension components on XK...doing shocks while im in there. Are the 100.00 Bilsteins that they list on partsgeek.com ok for my car. I dont have CATS. Also what are they talking about when they say cars without the "R" performance??? This is my wifes daily driver...no hot rodding ...I assume this shock will be just fine....better than the 250 the dealer quoted me!

Thanks

Yes, the non-R shocks are exactly what you need. As I mentioned in your other thread, the $100 shocks are identical to the $200 shock with closely similar part numbers (but sold through partsgeek at higher prices)

Can't remember your year XK8, you might want to put that in your signature. There are some subtle changes to body and parts at 2003 MY, it'll save more questions later. And, I could link you to exactly the front and rear you need from partsgeek.

Ah, that's a good local price on shocks, good luck with the project.

I've got one of those 'front end suspension kits' if you want to borrow it. I'll be around town (actually at the dealer tomorrow morning for an alignment). Send me a PM if you need it. It helped me on the ball joint removal...which was a pain w/o it! A pickle fork just didn't do it on the first side.

Default Bilsteins, Adaptive Tuned Suspension

Don't mean to interrupt the thread, but same question,

OK so I drive a 2000 XKR, which one of these aftermarket shock choices should I get, especially on the rears. I do have a switch near the J-Gate for Sport-Mode.

yyk,

2000 XKR
Not sure if it has CATS,
no mention of it in owner's manual

The switch only changes the transmission shift mode and doesn't interact with the suspension at all.

Easiest way to identify CATS is to look at the shock tower under the hood and see if there is a wire running to the top of the shock. If there is, you have CATS.

If you have CATS then there aren't any inexpensive options short of getting rid of the adaptive suspension altogether. Adaptive shocks are about $500 each for new, but they can be rebuilt. I haven't investigated this option so can't comment on price.

Appreciate the offer H20, funny I was at the dealer in Fort Worth Saturday morning getting those gold plated shock mounts....might have seen you there and did not even know it....

Right now my ball joints and everything else seem to be ok...the car rides like a dream again....

Oh by the way...the shocks I got are EXACTLY the same as the OEM shock...the only difference is that they are black and dont have the Jaguar emblem....just FYI for anyone else thinking about doing theirs.

on the earlier, pre-2003, i've heard of a few owners getting the koni adjustable shocks. From what I read, they worked well. Not much else on the other branks. The bilsteins work for years, tested and proven - same ride quality, that's why most stick with them when the price is only $100 ea.
