New transmission flush method
I finally got all the codes taken care of, so I went to the emission station, so I could get my plate. My car could not be tested, because there had not been enough cycles on the car, since the codes were erased. It was suggested, that I drive the car for a week or so, to get the cycle number up.
After this, I decided to go for a ride. After being about 20 miles from home, with my cell phone on the dresser, the bottom hose going to the trans cooler, in the radiator decided to split. Once I saw the smoke, and the trans fault message made it's announcement I pulled in front of a very nice person's house, and he let me call my wife.
She brought 6 quarts, of the Castrol import trans fluid, and some hydraulic hose, as well as my collection of funnels, some pliers, and a short hack saw. I used a 1" open end wrench, to take both fittings off the radiator. I sawed off the sleeves holding the hose on to the tubing, and fit the new hose on both ends, and used a couple of industrial band clamps to make things permanent. Since she didn't bring the socket to remove the side plug, I had to guess as to the amount of fluid that I lost. I poured all 6 quarts of fluid into the trans, through the return line, from the radiator, and drove home. I opened the drain plug, and only about 2 quarts came out. I measure what fluids drain, from my vehicles. It is another OCD trait.
I dropped the pan, changed the filter, changed the pressure piston in the front valve body, using my huge vice and foam on the jaws, so as not to damage anything. I do not know how someone without this equipment can remove and replace that plate, without the vice. The end result was a major trans flush, and work, that I had planned anyway......Be cool....Mike

Ensure you use the rated oil the trans are very finicky about what's put in them, There's a number of threads on hte spec I can't recall it offhand, I do know people who used off brand / non spec had issues
VW Porsche Audi Master Tech, Former Audi Team Mechanic, Master millwright, steel mill manager

Ikea has a cloth covered hardsided storage box with a zipper top.
About 18"x12"x6".
Surprisingly, it can hold a deep socket set, combination wrench set,
screwdrivers, torx bits, diagonal cutters, a 1/4' drive set,
channel locks, vise grip, some spares, duct tape, masking tape
and a host of other things long since forgetten.
It weighs a good 20 pounds but most jobs can be done
without riding the elevator back upstairs
There wasn't much oil on the ground, because I apparently dumped most of it on the streets in a town I grew up in, but can't stand now.
The nice guy enjoyed helping and watching me. He brought out a piece of cardboard for me to lie on, and said I made his Saturday, because he didn't have much to do, except think of what to do. He wants to see the car, once I am finished with it, since he has time invested in it now. He was a very cool computer geek kind of dude. He owns a Lincoln, with the same basic engine in it, with 240K miles, and it has given him no trouble.
The Castrol import fluid is suitable for BMWs with the same basic transmission, and someone else on the forum said it's specs were compatible, with the ZF trans, that my 99 has.
How much fun, can one guy have in a day?......Be cool....Mike

I've know many knowledgable people to overlook something when the Sh.T hits the fan and we are in recovery mode.. it was just a FYI.

My wife has never liked my Jaguars, except when using my X Type when her 2014 Jeep Cherokee is in the garage for recall work or something falling off of it. She is English and German. I guess I know which side is dominant. The Germans have never gotten along with pretty much anyone, including me at times. I'm Italian, and as long as I have a little wine I am a happy, get along with anyone type of guy. She was happy as a clam with me working for VW Porsche Audi, and even forgave me for putting a mortgage on the house for the Porsche 928S. She has not had the same love for my MGs, Triumphs, or Jags. She did like tooling around in her Rolls in the mid 80s though......Go Figure.......Be cool.....Mike

Yes but that's who taught me how to tie down loads.
Bought a double mattress set at Sears and needed to make
it 20 miles home on a highway in a Saab.
I told the two brothers assigned to help me load about my
concerns the load would shift in the breeze.
They said "don't worry, we grew up on a farm and hauled
lots of hay bales. We'll tie it down good. It won't budge."
Got home, the matress and spring hadn't budged at all
and never looked like it was lifting going down the highway.
Been using their technique ever since
