Hello everyone,

I have just signed up. I’m in West Sussex in the UK and have a 2001 X100 Coupe. Since changing brakes all round, I have no gauges working, including the centre 3 (clock), no messages on the display, no warning lights and no illumination to these gauges. The centre console illuminates, but the fog lights all round don’t operate and no telltale lights either.

I’ve googled but got nowhere fast. I’ve been checking fuses all round but find nothing is blown.

The car starts but runs very lumpy and doesn’t like to rev. Can anyone please give me some clear instructions on what to check, in sequence and how to complete these checks to find the source of the fault?

I appreciate any assistance you can give me, as I’m getting desperate after weeks of hunting.

Many thanks, Tim

In a perfect world, I would suggest a COMPLETE DTC scan of ALL MODULES but...........
That would require dealer level diagnostics. (WDS/IDS etc.)

Knowing ALL DTCs of ALL modules would help 'speed-up' diagnosis.

Not having all the info will require extensive fault finding and 'guessing' at possible causes.(let the guessing begin)

Instrument pack get 12V from fuse 14 (10A) and fuse 18 (5A) in the driver side fuse box. Check for blown fuses and 12V to the fuses

What else did you do when changing the brakes? Did you disconnect the battery or was it left connected over a long period? Weird electrical gremlins are often caused by a bad or low battery. I don't think there's much else on offer without a code read with a good battery, perhaps after a reset too.

Good luck with your search for an answer.

Update: I've fully charged the battery. it's showing 14.26 v at tick over. I've put the ground strap on the positive terminal for almost a minute. Reconnected the battery, started the car, checked error codes from the ODB2 socket and it's showing P0327 knock sensor 1 and circuit low bank 1. P1638 manufacturer control.
I've tested the fuses at 14 and 18 on the passenger side small fuse box (UK car). The fuses are fine but I removed no. 14 and the engine stopped. I then tested the base of the fuse 14 and there is no 12v supply there or at 18.
I'm really basic with my electrical knowledge and skill. Can anyone please advise what I should move on to next and how to check and what to look for?

TIA, Tim

Fuse 18 gives only power to the instrument pack, and should have battery power. (no need to turn the ignition on). Fuse 14 gives power to several things and should have ignition power.
You have already got proof that fuse 14 is OK and that it has power, I do not know how you test it, but your test failed - without 12V your car would not start.
Check for power at fuse 18.

Thanks for the advice. I have used a multimeter and there is no power to fuse 18 in the small fuse box under the cover at the base of the windscreen. Please can anyone guide me on where to look next, please?

I have had my dashboard tested by an electrical engineer and it is working fine. The problem I have is power supply to the dashboard. Please help me to find the reason for this. I have a multimeter and I just need guidance on what to check and how to do so. I would really appreciate assistance here.

Thanks, Tim

Further update. I definitely have power at fuses 14 and 18 in the driver’s side fuse box. This suggests there should be power to the dashboard.

Please can anyone help me to trace the reason for no power to operate the main and secondary dials and lights etc? The dashboard has passed operational testing on the bench.

Please help 🤷‍♂️🙏🙏🙏
