Default Noise behind instrument panel on startup

I have a noise coming from behind the instrument panel when car first starts up. It is a soft thunk sound about 3 seconds apart. Goes away after driving. Any ideas?

There are various actuators/motors/solenoids (or whatever they are called) behind the dashboard that control the airflow for the air vents. Maybe try the different settings for airflow on the AC controls and see if it is all working as expected, or makes any strange noises?

Look for movement of your engine during start up. Worn engine mounts will almost certainly cause the odd sound particularly when the engine kicks over initially. Worth an investigation I think.

Hi rbhines,

You don't tell us the year and model of your Jaguar (or include these important details in your signature so they will show up in all of your posts), but if your car has the memory steering wheel position setting, the steering column motor may be trying, unsuccessfully, to move the steering wheel to the memorized position.

Cheers,

Don
