Yesterday I removed the ABS module from my 2002 XKR 4.0 without disconnecting the battery, I repaired the solder joints as i had the abs not available warning , I had already replaced the sensors a few weeks before. when I replaced the the ABS module and started the car the ABS light not available was still being displayed but in addition I had a message displaying in correct part fitted.
The car started several times displaying the same messages, I then bled the braking system, then went to take it on a test drive but the car would not start. I appear to have fuel being delivered but no spark at the plugs, its like something has shut down.

can anybody help with this one please

 

How's the battery voltage?

You should read around 12.6V across the battery terminals with the car not running. anything much below that and the battery needs charging/is suspect.

If that's OK, then try the hard reset procedure. Member Gus describes it here with pictures:

If I remember correctly, the ABS warning didn't clear after the module fix until the next time I went for a drive.

 

Hmmm. Even functionally inoperative, the ABS shouldn't prevent the car from starting/sparking. First thought is that the CAN bus termination in the ABS is fragged. That will stop the car from starting.

Easy to check CAN continuity from the OBD port with a voltmeter. Should be ~60 Ohms between pin 6 and pin 14. This thread may be helpful

Beside that, can you check the codes? That might give a better clue if the CAN bus has continuity. If you can't check the codes, that could be the problem.

 

Hi did a hard reset this morning removed The abs module connection and car started, however replaced the plug on abs and car would not start again. tried the hard reset again no joy cant get the thing to start.

I have two fault codes P1637 can bus fault abs and P1260 security fault , if I clear these still wont start

 

Progress. You might want to try the CAN bus continuity check with an ohmmeter from the OBD port. The security fault may be that the CAN bus is not whole so the modules can't talk to each other. There may be other reasons, but this would be first.

 

I'd suggest looking at the repair you did in the ABS module. The car started with the module faulty, starts with the module disconnected, but won't start with the repaired module connected. That would point squarely at the module. Maybe you bridged two contacts accidently when soldering?

 

Or bent pins on the connector. It can be fiddly to seat properly. I suggest you give them a close inspection.

 

Yes, I would guess the CAN bus connection, either on the board or in the connector, but simple to check and isolate the problem (i.e. short vs open) if that is the problem.

 

Just get a JLM21323 from a salvage yard.
The problem is that if the module has been dormant for a period of time the capacitors discharge and the module will need to be configured to a car or the INST PK display will indicate INCORRECT PART FITTED.

You likely damaged component(s) on the circuit board during the case disassembly. The ABS module for your car is common from VIN A00083 to A30644 or 4.0 liter X308 VIN F00035 onward.

 

I experimented a similar situation after trying to solder the ABS. I think i damaged it then.
First, check the ABS to CAN plug looking after damaged or wristed pins.
If no joy, send or exchange the module. Normally, no programing is needed.

Be aware that, even if reference is the same, R and 8 models are internally differents
