I came across this device. Is this any good or does it only read a part of the cars computer?

Some members have reported good success with that iCarSoft device on the newer vehicles, and, from memory, some issues connecting to an older vehicle. My superficial understanding is that for handheld JLR devices, folks either buy the iCarSoft or the Foxwell devices, both available "everywhere" on eBay or Amazon. Do a search, check reviews and feedback, and be sure there is a friendly return policy. Also check policy for software updates (time limit, etc). These come up in the classifieds, too, once in a while.
From a feature perspective, it is definitely beyond standard OBDII, but also shy of the SDD/IDS "factory" software. These devices likely can read all sensors, get all codes, etc. but some "procedures" will still be out of reach (e.g. resetting transmission adaptations, or adding transponder keys). On the flip side, at maybe an hour dealer labor, you cannot really go wrong with this.
