Default Which OBD2 scanner 2024?

Hi All,
I have searched for OBD2 scanners to use with my XK8 but the results all seem a few years away! So here in March 2024 - which is the best scan tool to use for BOTH my XK8 and other cars? I don't mind spending a bit of money on the right tool, so long as it works! Any suggestions need to be obtainable now please.
Thanks.

This scanner was recommended by another Forum member, I have one for my 1998xk8 and my 1996 xj6, they work, but it took me a while to figure out. The scanner uses Bluetooth to a mobile phone and it has the ability to download software for multiple cars.

Based on recommendations, I have purchased a lot from Amazon and sent them all back but one...SO FAR. I am currently using the Foxwell NT510 Elite. It checks most things but not all your modules. My Autel checked climate control seats and mirrors, and this does not but pretty much everything else. You have to get the one based on Landrover/Jaguar.

Does the one you purchased do everything?

I recently purchased the iCarsoft one which saved me as I had gearbox and ecu faults I was able to read and clear. The one I purchased is only for the jaguar/landrover.
iCarsoft LR V2.0 iCarsoft LR V2.0
. They have a CR pro which claims to do all vehicles all systems. Now I wish I had purchased the pro to use on my other vehicle. I also have a wifi obd adapter I use with dashcommand; it is really only useable to check readiness monitors.

I use Topdon artidiag 500, you get constant upgrades of all the major makes, you can even send a diagnostic report to yourself by email to show to a mechanic if needed, it also gives explanations of the codes and some remedies, also connects to the internet via phone or WiFi

@Defender99uk What functions can you do with it based on a 97. Engine, Trans and some I/M. What about seats, climate control......Is it bidirectional so you can reset TPS?

I don’t know what it will test on a 97, mine is 2003, just recently it picked up transmission fault, engine bay fault and an SRS fault , not all fixed yet though, it also picked up faults with seats, mirrors and a load of other functions, but they all cleared when I replaced the battery. The amount of faults it did pick up was scary lol. It also works on my transit connect van, my partners fiesta, and a mates Mercedes
cost is around £100 maybe less.

I am in the same situation in the UK. iCarsoft seem to be mentioned in my searches, LR2.0, LJMCARDIAGNOSTICS have a range of these. I have borrowed SnapOn, Autel and Launch but these were professional units costing 400+. I want one OBD reader for my X100 and modern vehicles(F31). Seems to me a dedicated OBD is preferable over phone based devices. No recent feedback I can find however so older posts likely valid still if units still available .

Yeah, I know 97 was in the early stages of OBD2; however, Autotell on the phone seems to be able to pick up a lot of stuff. The dedicated unit I purchased does not pick up some of the same things. I may have to go to the manufacturer and see what they have to say/

I have had my iCarsoft i930 scanner since February 2016. It communicates with most but not all of the modules in my wife's 2006 XK8. I would categorize it as good but not great. The bottom line is that it has paid for itself during the 8+ years I have owned it....

Greetings all,

I am also looking for an OBD2 unit with more capability than the basic one I have. I was searching for the iCarsoft 930i and found 2 different units.

The one on Amazon here,
Amazon Amazon

It looks completely different from the one on the iCarsoft's website here, https://www.icarsoft.com/Product/s-3...verjaguar.html

I tried calling the number on the iCarsoft's website but get some strange message.

Anyone know what the difference is between these units?

Joe

I have an icarsoft i930 that I bought used on eBay. Works well, reads all systems. Only complaint is it does not erase U and B codes. Happy otherwise.
