Default Occasional "no start" after sitting.

I'll drive my 2000 XK8 for a while, periodically (not usually), I will climb behind the wheel, turn the key. The dash cluster will light up, but the starter relay will not engage. If it sits for a while (an hour or less), I can turn the key, Ian will fire up as if nothing was wrong. This doesn't happen all the time, but it occurs randomly.

What could be happening?

A P1260 will likely NOT set the CHECK ENGINE indicator but check for the code anyway?
Try another key when it happens?

I get no "codes," and I tried another key. No soap.
This doesn't happen all the time, but sporadically. It is rather disconcerting when it takes place.

Mechanical issues do not set codes. When it wont start check the voltage at the white/red at the starter motor . if Zero you have a 12v feed issue via the igniton circuits . If you have 12v get a new starter. Easy to do on a LHD 6 Hr pig on a RHD

Another suggestion to add to the others: Have you tried wiggling the gear lever when this happens? If the car thinks it isn't in Neutral or Park it won't start.

The switch on the gear leaver (XYZ switch) is part of the supply to the starter solenoid via white/red

I don't have an answer but I have had this a few times as well - so am appreciating the suggestions to try next time. Has happened probably 5 times in the 2 years I've had the car.

I have tried moving the gear selector lever. No difference was made. I'll ask my friends at Consolidated Auto Works (my independent Jaguar-only mechanic) to see if they have a solution.

Thanks to all. .
