Good morning all.
Before I look at the 3 gauge harness wiring, I want to revisit the wiring at the oval plug at the alternator. I posted in an earlier post that the oval plug disintegrated when I was removing it from the alternator leaving the 2 wires just hanging there. I purchased a new 3 wire plug from Napa and I connected it as best as I could, which is not good enough.
The other thing is in my 2001 XK8 there is a mix of wiring so the colors are confusing unless you have the schematics for 97-99 and 2001
The wires leading to the oval plug on my car are (White/Purple which should be connected to Pin #2 and Slate/White which should be connected to Pin #1)
Looking at the schematic, the white/purple wire is connected to Pin #2 and Slate/White connected to Pin #1
Attached are some photos of how I connected it but since I do not know which is Pin # 1 and Pin #2, I may have connected the plug incorrectly.
need help on which terminal is Pin #1 and which is Pin #2. Is Pin 1 in the middle and Pin 2 on the top?
I believe this plug is not connected properly because when plugged in the wires go to the middle and lower pin as indicated.
97-99 Schematic shows Slate/white going to Pin 1 and white/purple going to Pin 2 My connections show me connecting White/Purple to the middle pin and Slate/White to the lower pin.
Can anyone clarify the Pin #s for me
Is pin #1 the middle and Pin #2 the top?
Added the generator function doc from Topix, according to this for an '01 the pins 2/3 are used on the generator, for supply and gauge signal, #1 is the blank. It outlines where they go, so you should be able to match that up with the wiring diagram. Was looking for a nice connector pin out diagram but no luck.
Also, pin 1 will never be the middle. It will start from one end of the connector. It should be labeled on the connector housings, although it may be very small and tough to find. Look it over though, should be able to see very tiny numbering on it someplace.
@RoverJoe This is the first time I have seen any mention of Pin #3 being used. All of the schematics, 97-99 and 2000 onward show Pins # 1 and 2 being used so now I am totally confused. The major problem is that in the schematics, no mention is made of Pin #3, either in writing or drawing. All they show is connections at Pins #1 and 2. So the real question being asked is which is Pin #1 and Pin #2. Even if it's Pins 2 and 3, which is which.

Reason: remove info
Yes - the Jaguar EG documentation doesn't match Topix. The EGs show pins 1 & 2, whereas the Topix lists 2 & 3, with 1 left unused. The spare pin (whether it's 1 or 3) isn't used on the 4.0L.
I've looked at the IDS pinout diagram and it's not particularly helpful.
@ Michaelh and RoverJoe: THANK YOU BOTH FOR PATIENTLY WORKING WITH ME THROUGH THIS.
Problem Resolved.
After trial and error, I can safely state without a doubt, the Denso Alternator pins are numbered as follows:
Viewing the back of the alternator as installed in car
Bottom - PIN #1
MIddle - PIN #2
Top - PIN #3
My battery light is now OFF when engine is running.

Even though my car is MY 2001, the wiring to the Alternator is MY 97-99
W/P goes to Pin #2 (IGN wire)
S/W goes to Pin #1 (L)
The battery light is now off when the car is running.
Thanks again.
As you all may have noticed, I have not posted anything for a while now. So here is an UPDATE:
My XK8 has been running well with the exception of an "INTERMITTENT" ABS Light comong on. Sometimes it would come on when driving then go off by itself. Sometimes it will come on when I apply the brake to start the car. The code is always LEFT FRONT WHEEL SENSOR CIRCUIT>
I have a a good used sensor to ABS module harness and I also purchased a used a used ABS module complete with the pump.
The reason I am posting this now is that I am almost back to the point where I can start to do some work on the car since I had CATARACT surgery in January and February and my eye doctor told me to refrain from bending and avoid lifting anything heavier that a gallon of milk.( I hardly drink milk lol) Anyway, I will be back in stride next week as I have gotten clearance from the doctor to resume my normal stuff.
I was thinking to get tthe purchased module checked out properly in case I have to replace it. However, I contacted a company in Atlanta (recommended on this forum) and was told that they could only repair a unit that has a known fault. Their website and their rep on the phone says I must state the actual fault for them to repair it.and that I could not sent the module to them to repair if they do not know what is wrong with it. Since it is a used 2001 ABS module, my caris also a 2001 MY, I do not know if anything is wrong with it.
Does anyone know of a service provider who will take my ABS module and do the repair of resoldering all of the known circuit failure points before I do the work of removing my ABS module and replacing it with the purchased module only to find out that there are circuit issues with it.
Appreciate your responses greatly.
Today is the first day I am using my laptop without glasses. YAAAY!
All the JLM21323 (9 valve blue solenoid modules) from 2000MY to 2002MY XK are the same part.
You can also use XJ 2000MY to 2003MY modules from the sedans.(they are the same)
The power pins that need solder are not hard to repair.
I shipped an ABS module out to CircuitBoardMedics a while back and they were super nice to deal with, it was a 2019 SQ5 though, nothing similar to what you have. Not sure what they could do for you but they were easy to get in touch with and very fair, when they couldn't determine if there was an actual failure, they shipped it back to me at no charge, I was only out my initial shipping to them. https://circuitboardmedics.com/

The sensor circuit errors are almost always the cable. The module tends to give other errors. I replaced the left one shortly after I got the car due to left side circuit errors. I replaced the right side a few weeks ago due to, you guessed it, right side circuit errors.
I'd replace the cable first and see if the problem goes away before engaging in the brain damage of finessing the module out from under the brake lines.
Y2KJag: I will try replacing the cable as soon as I can get the car up in the air. My only concern is that the ABS light will turn on when I just start the car. Normally a bad cable will react to the steering wheel being turned or the suspension up and down movement. If it is indeed the cable, why would the ABS light turn on with no steering wheel or suspension movement. Just curious. @RoverJoe I will contact Circuitboard medics and hear what they have to say. Thanks.
The module runs a circuit check when it first turns on. If there is an open or short in that line going to the sensor, it will give the code before anything moves, that's what it's looking for on the test. Easy enough to verify if your fault is setting right away, a check of the circuit with a meter at the ABS module will confirm its good before you go through the hassle of removing the module.

+1
That's how mine was eventually behaving before I repaired the ABS module solder joints.
