1998 Jaguar XK8, Automatic. 4.0L Convertible

Fail Safe Engine Mode Light is on, on Dash (also check engine light)

Car cranks, but will not start in park or neutral. Crank sensor or is there a shifter neutral safety switch? OBD2 hook showed the code P1517. Other codes cleared were below, but the P1517 is the one that kept coming back. Fuel pump is running, and a check on the fuel rail shows 40 psi when cranking. It appears something is stopping the car from actually firing and cranking up. Help please? Also, if i need a new PNP switch, where is the best place to buy this part (reasonable price)? Where is this switch (or switches if more than one) located???? What kind of money are these part(s) costing? Thanks in advance.

One thing i forgot to mention, When i was trying to unload this car, the battery was low, and I did not realize I needed to have a somewhat charged battery to take it out of park and put it in neutral. I admit i probably did torque a bit on the shifter, trying to get it out of park, an put it in neutral to get it off the car trailer. I am wondering if I possibly now have a shifter cable that is now out of adjustment. Any ideas? How do you check the adjustment on them? Seems ok when going through the gears just sitting with a good battery, but IDK. Could the shifter cable being out of adjustment cause my no start and a safe engine mode light to be on?

Below is the definition for the code P1517. It would appear that you may have knackered the adjustment for the transmission rotary switch.
Follow this link to the How To Section and download the PDF of the tech manual. It will provide the procedure for adjustment. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/. You will want to download the Second Edition as it is searchable. 2. Second Edition - 1999.
Make sure the battery is fully charged and then clear all codes and do a hard reset before trying to restart. Hard reset is removing the negative cable and holding it against the positive cable for ten seconds and then reconnecting. The hard reset will return all modules to factory default.

 

UPDATE: My XK8 is now running and driving. The problem ended up being the wiring harness that runs along the transmission tunnel. It had been chewed on by mice. It was removed from the car, repaired, and installed, and the car started right up.
Also all codes cleared and so far, none popping back up.
