What a confusing country. I Google Houston and it gives me a picture of Dallas. Tried it for Cinco Ranch and there's not a herd of cattle in any of the pictures.

Good to hear it's working and the thread also made for an interesting geography lesson.

I agree the parking brake is crap, crap designed and in operation. That said in Calif we have hills, even my small driveway is a hill...so when I park I use the hand brake.

I place foot in brake, push in thumb knob, pull up a fair amount till resistance, then let go, it holds, i then put it in park. To release, I put foot on brake, pull up, push in knob, sometimes it take a couple of attempts for the light to turn off and i know there is no longer a brake on....it's crap and I use it.

I'm just a beginner in the world of Jaguars made after 1970, but I thought the button is not supposed to be used when setting the brake, only when releasing it, am I wrong on that ? FWIW, the manual makes no mention of using the button when setting the hand brake.

Also, does pressing the foot brake have any impact on setting the hand brake ? I don't see a connection between the two systems, but may be looking at the trees instead of the whole forest.

zray (or anyone else) exactly how did you get the cover off of the parking brake handle? It sounds like you were successful recently.

I have a '97, and I've read plenty of posts in the forums pointing to the JTIS and its instruction to "release cover trim securing clip from brake lever and remove cover trim," but after a few hours of tinkering I still can't figure out exactly where the cover trim securing clip is or how it might be released

The JTIS drawing isn't so helpful.

The best I can tell from JTIS, after the snap is released I should press inward on the handle near its top on the door side. I still can't budge the cover, though.

On my '02 XKR the cover was a very tight fit over the mechanism. I didn't see how the heck could it could just pull off. But I kept tugging at it first on one side, then the other side, repeated that a few times, and finally it slipped up and then forward.
