Default Parking Module replacement

My parking aid module is: 3W83-15K866-AA, I can't find a matching prefix 3W83 or suffix AA but plenty of matches to 15K866 will any module work or is it critical to have an exact match?

My immediate thought was 'NO' because I've retrofitted Parking Aid to a 2001 XK8.

However, checking the Parts Catalogue shows the Reverse Aid Module became programmed from VIN A40265:

If your vehicle is VIN A40264 or below and the donor module comes from a similar VIN range, it should be compatible.

Mine VIN is A36190 (a 2003 XK8) I've been doing the web search via part #, should I be able to find one referencing VIN #'s?

Your VIN is prior to the introduction of the programmed module so you need to source a similar replacement and it should just be a direct plug in.

The programmed modules started with MY 2004.5. You can either search by Part Number or Model Year.

Graham,

How difficult/expensive was it to fit the Parking Aid to your car (and was it worth it)? I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle that lets me know when I'm getting too close to the car behind me when parking; worth its wait in gold.

The one that was stock in the car was water damaged. I have yet to replace it so can't give you a cost

Sorry I'm tired, didn't see that your question was directed to Graham.
I also have a follow-up regarding my first post; Am I okay without the matching prefix 3W83 or suffix AA as long as matching 15K866 & the plug-in configuration?

I would not fit a Jag reversing aid in your case, have a look on ebay for dirt cheap aftermarket ones that work well.

FYI, I was once suspicious of the module in my '03 and tried substituting a module from an '01. It worked fine.
