Default Problem with Welsh front shock mounts

I put these Welsh shock mounts on in February. with new springs to bring ride height back to spec. It was 1.5 inches low. With new springs and mounts it was 1/2 inch high. After 4 months ride height has settled to 1/4 inch high, so I am going to remove the 1/4 inch spacers at bottom of spring.
I removed shock mount and hole is not centered.

I may put my 5 year old original Jaguar mounts back on. I will contact Welsh tomorrow.
And the one in the car has shifted.

Having same problem/issue. I took one Welsh mount apart, the inner ring is actually more like a doughnut and is smaller in diameter than the area it is in. So this doughnut can shift, thus not being centered any longer. Welsh should make this doughnut the same size as the area and it would not be able to shift or move.

Poor design.

I am putting another set on as I had ordered them prior to finding this out.

This needs to buy notified to them so that they can correct it. They seem to be having a fair share of defective mounts lately.

Damn, I just ordered a set for my car, I'll have to check them out thoroughly I guess before I install them. Keep us posted on what they say about them.

I wonder if Welch has recently changed their manufacturer of these upper shock mounts....

Pics of the Welsh upper shock mount taken apart:

Hopefully everyone can see how the inner ring/doughnut can easily shift to be against the inner surface as the doughnut diameter is smaller than the area it is in. Easy fix would be to simply make the three pieces larger to fill the area. Do not know if the manufacture has changed or the design was always this way. Whatever, this is a poor design.

Has anyone who has experienced recent failure with their Welsh components had a discussion with the company? These complaints did not begin showing up on the forum until recently....

I called and they said there is only a 60 day warranty, but send them an email about it. They are unaware of any issue. I will reference this posting.

Here is bottom view

I know I have not since it has been over four years since I installed the Welsh upper shock mounts; just removed them last week. I have another set to go on as everyone says these are better than the URO ones.

And actually I do not know if the shock rod being off centered is really a failure. Not sure just what this shifting would cause in the way of change in handling or tire wear. Something causes the shift, which could just be the result of hitting potholes/rough road/etc......IDK.

Welsh called back. They will replace up to 1 year. I said no, and they offered a store credit. I will likely do that as I am buying stuff from them during the years.

They believe the manufacturing process has not changed and this is basically the first they have heard of an issue.

My new, uninstalled welsh mounts' center hole locator bushing is not centered.
I do not have a warm and fuzzy feeling about these mounts. I'm 'almost' tempted to buy a set of the uros and do what Rothwell suggested, use the uro center and welsh outer but then...the total cost is oem jaguar territory. Maybe I should return the welshes and go for the oem
I must admit to being disappointed in the welsh response to these issues.
pre internet the 'I've never heard of that' excuse was used widely by too many companies but this is 2020, we have a pandemic, and the internet...things are different nowadays.
Okay I'm off of my platform for a while.

No, as a owner that needs new supports for my 2003 with 14,000 miles I find your comments "right on". This company needs to do the right thing and address this problem area. I am waiting to do my replacements until there is some sort of resolution.

I spoke with Coventry Jaguar in San Diego today. They have done and will do the work on my 2003 Jaguar XK8. They really did not have much knowledge concerning the Welsh Product but they use a Eurospare part that they say is similar to the original mounts but better. Anyone have any knowledge on this product?

The Welsh components situation is indeed disappointing. I still suspect a quality-control issue with their recent batch. The company needs to take this seriously and do some investigating....

The pair that Wayne (cjd777) and I installed in my wife's 2006 XK8 back in early January 2016 continues to perform exactly as designed and has held up quite well. Sure hope they continue to do so because I would certainly have second thoughts if they need to be replaced in future years....

I am still thinking that not being centered is really not a problem or failure of the mount. On my XK8 I only noticed the off center....I had no clunking or any change in ride or handling....my car had severe inner front tire wear which I attribute to the poly bushings I had installed in 2016 along with the Welsh upper shock mounts (the OEM mounts were crumbling). I had 35k miles on these mounts....no signs of any crumbling....car was driven almost daily and Tucson roads are far from nice and smooth. I suspect that the roads were too much for the poly bushings....which caused the alignment issue....the combination of likely is what pushed the shock rod to be off centered. But I still do not call this a failure.
I took the old mounts apart to just show how they can shift. I think the design could be improved by increasing the diameter of the poly(?) so it could not shift, but not knowing about all the parameters involved....probably not as simple as this.

scotstern: I went looking for these Eurospare parts......could not find anything for Jaguar. Got any more info on these?
