Well , almost bough a pair of welsh mounts guess im not based on feedback above.

Dont buy URO mounts either, just installed a brand new set and the driver side is already bad .Its crumbling from the side like the weight of the car has collapsed the outboard side.

Car hasn't been driven for more than 3 hours total since the mounts were installed.

Considering buying or not eurospare mount as those look very much like the URO ones.

Three hours?! That must be a record, even for URO. It must have sat at the shelf for a long time.

Could be older mounts. It is something that i've noticed buying from Rock Auto, they will send you for example; a pair of mounts or front wheel bearings and the packaging is different. It has happened with these jaguar shock mounts but also with my lincoln front wheel bearings. Both times i've had issues with the parts same parts were wrapped differently.

Don't have proof but suspect either they are sending different quality levels on the parts they sell or some of the parts have been open returns or “B” quality parts they buy cheaper.

Will tell you one thing- im staying away from URO unless its a part that you cant source other way.

I installed Welsh mounts about one year ago on my MY2000 Coupe, but have driven less than 5000 miles since installation with no sign of deterioration. Was wondering if we can hear from some owners that have had Welsh mounts on their car long term without any failure.

gents,
thanks to all of you for ALL this valuable info and experience... this thread has sent me out to my '05 xkr with a tape measure and my front end is 1.5" low on the left and 1.25" low on the right.... multiple questions come to mind most important of all is if there is a resolution as to whom to buy these upper mounts from to get quality ?...a lifetime warranty is nice but no assurance of not having to replace frequently... while performing the replacement, what else should i do (other parts)? i bought this in december with 75k miles...other than a clean car fax i have no history on her...again, you guys are dynomite.......esprit de corp......max

I think that at this point in time the oem mount is a better solution.

Over the years I have also received pairs of products with the same part# and manufacturer but the packaging was different and there was always something I could see that was different with the product. Maybe the coating, maybe a circlip maybe the shape of a rubber part but recently I got a 'matched' set of ball joints and one had no taper to it while the other did. The one without a taper required that I freeze it in order to install...RockAuto sources electronically from various US warehouses. I'm no longer a fan of theirs but I always use them for comparison sake. If an order needs to ship from various warehouses the shipping cost generally removes any cost savings and I go elsewhere.

i would suspect you need springs more than mounts. That was my issue.

Default Pictures of my upper mounts bought at DCR after 1k miles

Hi,
Glad I found this thread as I was about to start one exactly about the same matter.
I've installed my shocks and upper mounts a few months ago. I don't drive the car much and the longest ride I've driven must be about 140 miles at once. The car got less than a thousand miles since those were installed - see pictures.
At first everything was perfectly aligned, right in the center. Now you will see in the pictures, the upper mounts foam has moved horizontally on both front side.
It looks like the strut is still at the center, but the yellow foam moved between the plates. The duct tape on the harness plugs is just to secure the connection in place and applies no strength whatsoever on the strut, it's just for the wire.
See for yourself and comment please...
Now my question is, what are the consequences or problems that can arise from that and does that say something isn't installed properly? I find it surprising that the top of the shock strut is right in the middle but the foam in the upper mounts plates moved so much. How could that happen?
Thanks friends. Stay safe!

Yellow foam not centered or aligned anymore although the angle of the picture makes it look not so bad it's at about 15-20% inside.

All considered the strut is still decently aligned in the middle.

That's a good angle to see the the poly has moved.

Not to beat a dead horse much more, but my '01 Silverstone upper shock mounts bit the dust after careful use.

I noticed in this thread @scotstern in '20 talking about the Eurospare mount that FCP Euro supplies with a lifetime warranty via the local Jag specialist. Any long term thoughts on these?

Or is it still go with the Welsh mounts?

I want to pull the trigger to fix, I just would love to use whatever collective knowledge is best at this point.

A life time warranty is better than Welsch's response to it's customers complaint of early failures.
paraphrasing here---"sorry, we've never heard of the mounts failing, it looks like your purchase is expired "(by a few weeks)
Would you like me to connect you with our sales department?

Haha, that's kind of where I'm going with it. They are a bit more, but I plan on keeping the car as long as I'm around, and anything with a lifetime warranty must be either very good, or they severely underestimate the amount of work I'll go through to be frugal 😁😂

Default Any thoughts?

Any thoughts on my pictures in thread #71? Is that falling or is it supposed to move like that?
Thanks.

I'm no expert on these, but I think it's good the shock strut bolt is in the middle, but bad that the foam has shifted like this....

The OEM Jag ones that lasted me 85K were always centered on both the bold and the foam. Just my .02 but I'll let others chime in

My OEM mounts are 20 years old now and have 67k miles on them. Stll look OK, I think when they go I will replace them with the OEM part.

My OEM mounts are the second set my car had seen, and currently have a little more mileage on them than yours, about 75,000 miles and still looking good. With good ride height as well.

But replacing when needed with the factory Jaguar OEM parts is where my thinking is headed as well. Especially If the forum produced part is not available.

After reading everything I could find on the subject here in the forum, it’s becoming obvious that all of the aftermarket choices have lost whatever quality advantage they once had.

Thanks. I wonder what would make the foam move like this. It's sandwiched between 2 plates and there's not much room to shift. It's like if the strut top would have moved forward and back, pushing the foam every time. All I can think of is the bushings at the base of the strut maybe?? But the struts are new, like 500 miles.
What would cause the shock strut to move sideways, in other words, other than up and down?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.
Being off-centre won't really impact camber, and the lower shock bushing will accommodate the slight misalignment, but they don't look happy. Almost as if the foam ring is too small in diameter.
Are they OEM or DCR's upgraded version?
