Yes, I think I will go the repair option instead of new or used. That is if I can get it off.

I used radar-mirror.com. Only $114.00, quick turn around and mirror is better than new because of the improved material used to repair it.

All the mirror repair companies have been using the GEL electrochromatic system since the mid 2000s so the LIQUID is no longer an issue.

I have not used radar-mirror but thanks for the info.

I talked to them today and sent them the particulars of my mirror as I know it. Do you happen to know who manufactured the mirrors in the 1998 time frame?

All the Jaguar mirrors from that era are MAGNA DONNELLY.

There are several options for the different MYs

The twilight sentinal is the most common (yellow connector 6 wire) and then there is rain-sensing with twilight sentinal (white plug with more pins) etc.

Sybesma's is going to do my mirror and my local Jag dealer is just 15 minutes away. The service manager said they will remove the mirror and reinstall it once repaired. The best part is he is not going
to charge me.

Default Like new mirror.

Got my mirror back today from Global Battery Solutions (Sybesma's) and they did an outstanding job.

Mine also was back from Global Battery Solutions (Sybesma) today. Looks great and doesn't leave me blinded by the lights. Was easy to take off and reinstall based on advice here.

Hi, Just bought a used 2000 XK8 for my first car and I have half of my rearview filled up with the liquid you guys are talking about. I'm still a little confused about the best method of removal and if it would be ok to just stick an aftermarket mirror there as a replacement. Any tips would be helpful!

To remove the mirror, you must slide it DOWN along the curve of the windshield. There is a small metal tang at the bottom of the mount that needs to be pressed to release the mirror- just can't remember whether it pushes towards the windshield, or way- just play with it. Be careful- many have broken their windshield by applying too much force trying to remove the mirror.

Replacement with an aftermarket is possible, but you may lose some features ( auto headlight dim comes to mind). Mine did not have these features, so aftermarket was OK, plus I wanted a rear view camera, and the one I chose has that built into the mirror. The mount is the issue, and the aftermarket I bought has mount adapters that worked with the stock Jaguar mount on the windshield.

I also found you can buy the mount adapters from Autovox, that might allow some other aftermarket mirror to fit. Just not sure if the adapters are specific to the Autovox.

Darbysan,
Did that Autovox T1400 fit in your 97 XK8 ?
I have an 02 XKR with broken ball tabs.

Yes. It came with adapters, and one of the adapters worked perfectly on the '97. I believe the mounting bracket is the same for your car.

My rear view mirror has auto headlight / wiper.
also were you able to get power from the connector or did you have to use their cigarette lighter adapter?

Power came from the mirror area. Easy.

There is a tab that hold it in place, you will need to grab the base of the mirror and move it down in a motion parallel to the windshield.
As I needed to remove a couple times, I applied WD40 on the tab to make it easier to set or remove.
