Default Replacement Valet Key?

My XK8 came to me without the green valet key. Is it easy to get one?

YES, BUT DO YOU REALLY NEED 1? CONSIDER THE COST OF THE KEY AND PROGRAMMING AT THE DEALER

I do a fair amount of valet parkingfor work in downtown Chicago and with the economy what it is, it's a good idea to lock up. I've had stuff stolen several times before Plus, I like a complete car...

In the Corvette world, "programming" by the dealer really amounted to nothing more than a step-by-step sequence of button pushing. The process was pretty common knowledge among the enthusiast community. There was no special equipment needed.Dealers charged a flat $75.00 for 30 seconds work for the uninformed.

I wonder if it's the same with Jaguar...

WELL SOME INSTRUMENT PACK WILL PROGRAM A 3RD KEY IF YOU CYCLE 2 GOOD ONES, BUT OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT PROGRAMMED AT THE DEALER, AND NO ONE KEYS WE DONT PUSH A COUPLE BUTTONS TO PROGRAM, REMOTES ON EVERYTHING BUT AN S TYPE YES, BUT NOT KEYS, AND ANY NOT PRESENT WILL BE DELETED.
AND EVEN IF WAS A FEW BUTTONS TO PUSH ON A LAP TOP, HOW DO YOU THINK WE PAY FOR THATLAPTOP, BASE STATION STAND AND SOFTWARE THATS OVER 10K? ANDWE'RE NOT EVENTALKING ABOUT THE JAGUAR SPECIFIC ONLY KEY CUTTER.

It's hard to tell, but I think you're telling me that there's a laptop involved andthat it costs money to cut the key.

My dealer quoted me $175 for the blank and $50 to program. Seems excessive for the problem it's solving. Probably too much special equipment involved.

You may want to try some locksmiths up in your area but the dealer price seems reasonable to me.

(I'm a locksmith who does everything BUT Jaguar/Tibbe. I had to get my own done at the dealer too, LOL)

Here's a link so you can search. I highly recommend everyone on ClearStar. http://www.clearstar.com/yellform.htm
