Default Road Trip Tool Kit

Howdy Folks:
I'm trying the plan a road trip with my wife and space is tight. I have a little space between the spare and the removable trunk floor, some of which, I would like to pack some road trip tools. What would you recommend to be the necessary tools. (I have all the standard tire change tools)
Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm envious. My road trip won't be until after Labour Day. I have a soft cloth bag with a few standard metric wrenches, a metric ajustable (;-), hundred mile per hour tape, tie-wraps, a good flashlight, some mechanic's wire, a set of pliers, and an old Leatherman. Oh, and a Platinum Amex. You know, just in case. Have a good trip!

Good for you. I too am heading off May 9th to Southern Texas, about the only place on the damn continent that is warm enough to put the top down. (What ever happened to global warming?????)
Anyways, in answer to your question, I carry the following:
Code reader
Very small binder with codes, web addresses and the like
Can of sensor cleaner
Small metric socket set
Small but complete changeable head screw driver set
Plyers
Spare fuse of each size
Paper towels
Microfibre cloths for drying after wash
Squirt bottle of quick detailer

That has taken me through three major road trips so far

Have a nice and safe trip.

1/4 “ Drive ratchet, extension and metric sockets, Screwdriver, Adjustable wrench, channel lock pliers and a OBD II code reader. Anything above that is major work and for that you need a call phone to call for help. Travel light and hope for the best.

I concur with Gus and Rjag about the code reader. I bought a tool kit from Pep Boys before my two week expedition last summer. Good thing I had it, too. I had to use it a couple of times. It was in a plastic case which was only about 2.5 inches thick. I didn't put it under the spare tire cover, but it would have easily fit there.

Maybe what the forum needs is a "trip notification" section. Members can post itineraries, and their buds can follow along. Sort of like the obd2 thread. That way people don't get swamped with requests by default.

Default Thanks Folks

Thanks for all the replies. One more I will take is a multimeter. I'm open to the tire inflater and torque wrench. I just need more convincing. Again thanks!

Default Back from road trip (with pics)

Howdy Folks:

Trip particulars:
  • Day 1 left NC I77 -I26 - I95 to Fla exit 373 (A1A) to Mayport ferry then on to Daytona Beach via A1A.(no reservations)
  • Day 2 left Daytona via I95 then over to Jupiter to hit A1A again. Stayed on A1A thru Palm Bch etc to Ft Lauderdale.(no reservations)
  • Day 3,4 Left Ft Lauderdale via A1A to South Beach. (Miami) Had reservations at the Colony Hotel for 2 nights (very nostalgic)
  • Day 5-8 Left Miami on turnpike, then US1 down the Keys, stops at Key Largo, Islamorada, lunch before 7 Mile Bridge, and Bahia Honda before arriving in Key West ( Had reservations for 4 nights)
  • Day 9 back up the Keys to I95 then back to Daytona (same hotel but with ocean view)
  • Day 10 back tracked (A1A) I95 I26 I77 to Rock Hill SC then dropped the top for a back road return home.
It would not have been the same if we had take our other vehicles.
Total mileage 1885 , Spent $307 on gas. The only thing I used out of the toolkit was cleanup items.
Again thanks
