Seat memory

Seat memory
Hi all-----
On my XJ8L, When I get in, shut the door, as soon as I stick the key in the ignition, the steering wheel, mirror's, and memory seat all go to the drivers memory setting. When I pull the key out, all return to the exit setting.
On the XK8, as soon as I stick the key in the ignition, the mirror's move and the steering wheel moves to the set position but, the seat just sits there. (no pun intended) If I push the #1 set button, the seat will then move to the pre-set position. When I remove the key the steering wheel and mirrors return to the exit position, but not the seat. I have to push button #2 (which I preset to the exit position) to get the seat to move back so I can get out of the car.
Thinking (wrongly) that the module was bad, I sent the seat module to the guy in CA----Darrell Turner, who most folks use (Plus he's retired NAVY-----helping my fellow VET)----and he said he could find nothing wrong with it except a little corrosion here and there. Back in the car, same situation, everything except the seat works when the key is inserted or removed.
Seems like I read a good while back that there is some kind of ring on the ignition that senses the chip on the key when it's inserted to cause all this to happen. If this is true, can this be what's wrong and can it be replaced if bad? Can a good local locksmith shop replace it?
Any help appreciated---------Cheers

dibbit----------
No, I'm not sure dibbit. To get around the fact that there might not be, I've done as 'test point' said and set the #2 memory button to an exit position. It does seem odd that Jaguar would do that however.
If that's the case, having an automatic memory system for anything seems a waste, but getting out of the thing in my case is an almost necessity. ;-))

NOTE: Not sure how many people do this (the extra tall folks probably) but it's known that constant movement of the seat may eventually post a SRS error, this is due to the harness (specifically the connector) under the seat being flexed. Both times I had the SRS was due to me moving the seat down and back (but maybe not that motion) just a FYI, maybe a new thread with a poll?

I am a little vertically challenged, so the seat exit thing is not an issue for me. However, I set #2 memory for the generic taller type mechanics.
If I take it in for new tires (back ones done this weekend) or inspections. etc. I use #2 on exit, so the mechanic doesn't hit every frickin' button on the seat until they get a setting that allows them some legroom.
