Default A simpler fix for rattling rearview mirror

I followed some links to jagrepair.com that advises to remove the mirror, remove the bracket and carefully rebend them into a position until it fits more snug...

and then warns of being very careful when bending the bracket...

All I did was wrap the mount in smooth electrical tape, never did touch the bracket, and slid it back into place... now it was snug and the tape should mold nicely in between the bracket and the mount. (if it loosesns I will just go in and add more tape)

Much easier, less risky..and no more rattle - which, if you didn't know better, was the root cause of most every little rattle heard in the front of the dash...

At first I thought it was the vents, then the dash connections, the wood... but since the rattling mirror echoed off the glass... it made the whole front sound terrible.

Now it's fixed and with the silky smooth engine... I need to decide on suspension or brakes as my first replacement

Cheers
DJ

That may be an easier fix. Thanks for the idea. I think one should keep an eye out for tape degradation from hot sun. The tape may become slimy and shift around losing effectiveness. Just a thought.

Default rattling mirror

Use some thin cardboard between the mirror and mount. A glass shop guy said Jaguar mirrors are the same as Acrua and that is what he uses. I did it back in November and haven't had a problem.

I know it's been a long time since this rear-view mirror repair thread was posted, but if you use plumber's pipe-
thread tape instead of electrical tape you won't have the problems hnh375 mentioned with electrical tape when it gets hot and slimy.
