Tonight I drove the car for the first time in 2 weeks after getting it all buttoned up and the bumper back on now that the rear wing welding work is completed.


I tried the soft top but it did not operate, the rear windows dropped but that was it, no real sound of hydraulics, luckily the windows did go back up, but its now too late and dark to investigate.


Any suggestion for me to look at tomorrow are welcome.


I had to disturb the pump to get to the wing, I hope I did not damage anything.

 

I would check the electrical connection to the pump did not come loose as well as make sure you did not damage the solenoids or their connectors on top of the pump when you reinstalled.

 

Thanks I'll check the electrical connectors first, then get some one to operate the top while I'm in the trunk. There just seemed to be two electrical connectors, the yellow one and the black one on the heavy wires going to the pump. I was unable to separate the black one and that wire went under a bit of strain.


If anyone has a detailed sequence of events/flowchart for the electrical/mechanical systems when the soft operates that would be a big help.

Sitting up here too late reading as much as I can.

 

Check the fluid level first. When you attempted to open the roof did the motor start? When you did the work on the wing did you remove the battery terminal? You may need to do a hard reset with the windows down the roof open and the latch parked.

 

I just had another look.


The back windows go down no problem when the roof down button is pressed.


There is no sound from the roof latch while still holding onto the down button.


From the trunk you can hear the pump motor start up and spin as soon as the windows go down.


The pump motor continues to spin as long as the roof down button is held but there is no sign of any mechanical movement.


The yellow electrical connector to the valves looks ok.


The black electrical connector to the motor pump looks ok.

 

What is the level of the fluid? If the pump is running and the latch is not opening is a good indication the fluid is low. Fill it to the top embossed line on the tank.

 

I think it looks OK. will that amount make a difference?

 

The fluid level is fine.

Other suspects:
- be sure the petcock on the pump is fully closed (clockwise).
- check around the pump fittings for any indications of a fluid leak. Even a small one can inhibit the pump's ability to make full pressure.

 

Thanks guys, I must have knocked the tap, it turned a fraction and the top opened. That is a big relief as we are having the hottest summer here for 10 years!
