Default Some question on the SLM - Security Locking Module

I may be having some issues with my SLM. I thought it was the BCM but that is not my problem. Now I am getting telltale signs of a bad SLM including the keyfob not working and a flashing red light by the shifter. My current SLM does not show any obvious visual signs of a problem so I either need to send it to a module repair place or pick up a used one on eBay.

If I go the eBay route I want to figure out how to get one that I will not have to program. On eBay, the ones from the knowledgeable sellers list a "program code" with a number like 15 or 06 after it.

I do not see anything on mine that shows a code, is it something that needs to be plugged in to see what code the module has. I included pics of my module if anyone can spot anything that displays a program code. There are reasonably priced units that match LJB2600AB.

Take a look in your boot, left side under the carpet in the 'eaves'. You will see the module versions (e.g. SLM LJE2600AB/015).

LOL, you got it motorcarman. Doesn't matter if the numbers match exactly ( which they have to for simplicity ) it will have to still be programmed to the vehicle with dealer level software. A new SCLM won't recognize your keys and the CANBUS won't recognize the SCLM.

Why not give us some info about your problem and maybe we can help resolve it. Throwing parts at a Jaguar can get to be costly and frustrating.

No sign of water ingress which is good news.

If the top stopped mid-travel you might try checking the up/down relays are seated properly, or shuffle them around with others of the same colour:

One member found that reworking the joints on the SLCM receiver board plug cured the fobs not working:

Note that the fobs won't work if the key is in the ignition - or the car thinks that it is. Check the little flap in the ignition barrel is closing properly (about 3/4 closed) as the key is withdrawn, although you would likely experience battery drain if that was so.

Does the red light always flash even while driving? I was going to ask if you can put the car into 'fob recognition' mode but it would be hard to tell in that case.

I decided to send it to Module Repair Pro. Hopefully, it will come back as good as new!

I sent my SLM into Module Repair Pro and after they received it they said they don't really repair the SLM except for a few issues and they cannot diagnose it. So they upped the price to $300 from $100 so they could get a used one and clone mine to that one. I got it back and I still have a problem. So either they did not give me a unit that would solve my issue or the SLM is not my issue. I put my old one back in since there does not seem to be any difference between the two.
  • The car does not reply to the keyfob at all
  • The light by the shifter is flashing fast -

The flash should be around 1 per second or less when security is armed, and not at all if unarmed. Does it flash continually even when the car is running?

I spent some time with the electrical diagram today looking for what actually drives that LED, but haven't found anything yet. Will keep looking.

OK so that LED is on the gear selector illumination module, which must receive the security arming state via the CAN. It is not shown - possibly intentionally - on the module in the electrical guide.

However, Occam's razor, If it's permanently flashing then it will be impossible to tell if you've managed to enter 'fob recognition mode'. This is supposed to be accompanied by a soft 'beep', although it is virtually inaudible in my car so easily missed.

It may just be that there's a problem with the illumination unit itself? Be aware that, should you choose to accept the mission, finding a replacement may not be entirely straightforward. See this thread:
