Spider hose
What is the technical name and/or part number for a "spider hose"? I think it is a lower radiator (heater?) hose between the block and heater. I have a slow coolant leak and was told it is from there. Hard to get to? '01 XK8 4.0
I just did this hose replacement this past late summer. FUN job. ha ha ha
it can be done at home with basic tools, just ganna get some scuffed up knuckles before you are done.
On the drivers side of the hose, there is a plastic "T" like connector, replace it while you are at it, cheap part. DON'T buy this parts from a DEALER, they are out there on Ebay or parts suppliers listed on this site. As far as I know the hose is the same for all years 97-2006 I believe.

Is the octopus/spider hose the only coolant hose under the throttle body, behind the engine? That's where my leak is coming from. I've already replaced the two coolant hoses under the supercharger earlier this year.
I don't have a SC XK8 but mine had a coolant line from the pass side tube that the valley hose/octopus hose connects to that runs to the EGR, then another from the EGR to the TB. Then of course as you know the octopus hose, then the two heater core lines, then the coolant hose from the TB to the T connector that the octopus hose connects to and the other valley hose connects to the same T on the drivers side.
That said, it may be all diff for your car being a SC car.

If you've done the valley hoses then you've done the worst (or at least the most laborious) bit. The octopus is buried under the TB, although I've heard that some have managed to replace it without removing the latter. Beware of the cable tie that holds it in place. As the others have stated it does have a few connections and the 'T' piece attached to the octopus on one side can fail. Best to change what you can while you're in there so you don't loose all your knuckle skin. I removed the electrical connectors that are attached to a plate fixed on the top of the transmission to ease access. It took a little longer but unless you're 7ft or more tall its a stretch..
