Default Suspension overall- What parts did you replace?

Hi All,

Has anyone completed a suspension overall on a x100 yet? What components did you replace? Do springs normally need to be replaced as they age? They are carrying a fair amount of weight and I imagine they sag overtime (same with the upper mounts).

I see most springs are discontinued (R performance cars with adaptive shocks).

Thanks.

I think nearly every active member of this forum has done so. On the front suspension, the overall includes: upper shock mount (buy polyurethane from Welsh; it lasts longer than stock foam), shock absorber if non-CATS, lower shock bush if CATS, upper and lower control arm bushes, upper and lower ball joints, stabilizer bar bushings and drop links, shock absorber bump stops. I usually do the tie rod ends as well while in there.

On the rear, if non-CATS: shock absorbers, upper shock mount bush (it's like a foam donut), rear stabilizer bar bushings and drop links. If CATS, add two more foam bushings that sit a top of the shock absorber and don't replace the shock absorber. On the cars with CATS suspension, the shock absorbers are usually not replaced unless they are leaking. The shocks are long lasting but expensive.

The springs usually don't require replacement unless the car is sagging more than would be expected with the worn parts. On the front, worn shock mounts usually result in about a 1 inch drop. However, some members have found out that their cars have been fitted with lowering springs by a previous owner.

+1 to Glandaniel's excellent description. Dont forget to check your wheel bearings while you're there.

Both front and back are well within your abilities, you'll just need a special tool to unscrew it the ABS plate (name?) On the rear side of the front carriers.

Thanks giandanielxk8. Best description yet. Just in time. I'm going to do my suspension this spring.

This is what I am trying to correct. It looks like my rear camber is way out. Any ideas?

This was my most recent alignment. My vehicle has the CATs active suspension.

I would check the rear upper mounts, bump stops, both are foam like the front upper mounts and will turn to dust over time. I would also consider shocks, springs. Question - do you know if previous owner may have installed lowering springs?? If lowered, they may not have installed the thicker set of shims which would correct this

As far as I know the vehicle has the stock springs and dampers. I purchased the car from the original owner with 6,500 miles on it (June 2013). I do know the Silverstone coupes came from the factory 10mm lower than a normal XKR from 2001.

The problem with replacing the springs in the rear (and front) is they are no longer made. I can't find them anywhere.

Thanks.

you can reach out to the forum sponsors - SNG Barratts, jagbits Coventry West or contact DCR https://www.xk8-parts.com/category/rear-suspension/

Thanks! I will put in a request at each.

I know SNG, and the Jaguar dealership (nationwide search) can't find them anymore.
