Default Sway bar bushing placement - RESOLVED

I have a clunk in my front when hitting bumps and will replace my sway bar bushings. After reading the forum I see people recommending placing the split facing forward and placing the split facing aft. I bought the OEM bushing , can anyone clarify which way they go? Thanks, David.

David,

From JTIS:
Fit the bush so that split is facing towards the rear of vehicle.

For you nautical types, that means 'aft'.

Thanks Graham, I am a MAC guy and can't run the JTIS software. I appreciate it. I am going to use white lithium grease on the bushing to prevent future squeaks. Do you know the torque values for the cap nuts? David.

+1 on the split facing the rear of the vehicle.

Also if it is in correctly, the bushing should line up with the subframe flat surface. In other words, the grove in the subframe should seat the raised rectangle part of the bushing base.

See TSB 204-16 (attached) for recommended lubrication of the inner surface of the bushing.

Best of luck. This procedure can try your patience at times. Just take your time & make sure everything is lined up correctly before torquing.

Here are the torque specs:

Stabilizer Bar To Crossmember 22-28 Nm (16-21 ft. lbs.)

Here's the full JTIS section to go with Brad's TSB:

Is the retaining boss a raised section molded into the sway bar that fits in the groove of the bushing? It appears to be only on the drivers side correct? David.

Again, thanks for the help. I got the sway bar bushings in. Couldn't have done it without the information and help from this forum. David.

David,

Good to hear the job is done.

I've added 'RESOLVED' to your thread title to help others looking for this answer in future.
