Default Throttle body tube to airbox issue!

I noticed today that the tube to my airbox from the throttle body is cracked where the bend is! Is there a "tape" fix that can handle the heat or am I needing to replace this unit? If so, what is it called so I can search around for one?

Thanks all!!!

I have always called them an induction pipe but they are sometimes referred to as snorkels.

Better fix it quick, as more air will get in after the MAF, surprising you have not noticed it idling lumpy ot stalling which is coming when this sort of thing happens

If the cracks are in the 'accordion' section of the duct it can be reliability fixed with a good cleaning and stretched black electrical tape. I have driven many miles with that in place in both Volvo's and Jaguars.

If elsewhere you can try JB Weld and see what happens. Everyone says it will not stick to Jaguar plastic but I have a coolant reservoir that has had a JB Weld patch on it for more than a year and no leaks. I just modified a Volvo radiator shroud and tried every adhesive Lowes and NAPA had to offer and JB Weld worked best.

For what it's worth I bought a new one for my XK8 last year due to it being broken where the bolts hold it to the throttle body.

It was around $40 from the dealer.

Truly, not that expensive really, if you consider the size and shape of that thing. I was pleasantly surprised in the price when I replaced mine with a dealer part unit.

You can repair it but any repair is temporary. My repair lasted for about a year and ended up replacing it, I should have done that at the onset of identifying the cracks. This is a link to my repair if you elect to do it Air Intake Hose Repair Heat is a serious issue. I hope this helps!

You can actually do something like this very cheaply,

Get yourself a 45 elbow and a 90 with a diameter of 80-85mm you will also need 3 silicone connectors with clips or as I did in this picture with a stainless wrap with clips inclusive, the whole lot should not cost you more than $60 and you get something that will not break.

And of course looks pretty

I agree Regent.. Nice Bling XKRacer!

Well thanks for the help and I removed the unit off last night and found NO BREAKS in it. After closer inspection i found the break in the small tube that branches off and goes to the valve cover. So at this time I need to get that one replaced. I did the BLACK TAPE job on it to get it by for now as I think it will not be affected as much to the heat where it is located. Does anyone have a PART # for that tube or name that I can search on???

Thanks again everyone for the ideas and fixes!!!

I found when reinstalling mine I used WD40 around the open to the TB & MAFS that enables it to slip on easily and properly. As for the hose to the breather stub check the opening on the other side to be sure it is open and that the hose is not leaking.

Just buy an original from the dealer instead of mounting some aftermarket stuff in case you want to sell it later on!

Would you buy a rice boy aftermarket fixed car?

not exactly the same thing, this mod replaces a plastic part, sure to crack again in time, to one that will last longer than the car...a shiny intake tube does not make it a rice boy anything.
