Time for some help
Having no issues with my latest addition...a gorgeous 2002 XK8, 60.043 mls, and pretty flawless in and out. My first Jaguar and I must compliment the company, such a beautiful ride. Owned my car for 1 year 7 months and now it is squeaking in front when proceeding over bumps...or any type of dip or slant. No issues with steering and no squeaking on a straight. Had many vehicles since 1969 and never this problem. Obviously need to learn the car much better but it stays in garage much of the time and I have just grown to depend on her being right as rain, until a few weeks ago. asking for any input before I take to dealership, or perhaps simple enough for me to fix. I am pretty good with American engines, mostly the 1950's and 60's, but this is a little foreign (no pun intended) to me.
I completely appreciate any input (opinions) any person can bring to the table.
Thanks

Take-a-look-see at the front upper wishbone bushes. Spraying a little aerosol grease on them can stop them squeaking.
Not sure if worn ones will squeak as well (probably).
BTW if you can, take the Jag. out fairly regularly, they hate being idle :-)

Find a good independent mechanic that services Jags if you do not DIY.
Taking an older model to the dealership can cost you dearly and often leads to disappointment since many of the techs are not as well versed on older models.

Squeaking from the front could also be caused by:
1. The cross braces under the hood sometimes work loose over time - requires wiper arm removal to get access to the bolts under the plastic cover.
2.Worn top shock mountings - can sound like you have a bird living under the dash somewhere.

I had a similar squeak, turned out it was a failed front anti-sway bar bushing. Had some issues with the first set of Poly bushings that were put in.

If you a spray lube be sure it will not attack the rubber bushings. It should say so on the container if it does not you could make them soft and they will self destruct.

If we knew your location, some one might have a suggestion as to indy shop. The dealer is going to want to replace almost everything on the car at a very high labor rate.
I would even try a local suspension shop for a diagnosis and estimate. These are not really exotic cars.

The dealer will most certainly recommend/require complete front end replacement/rebuild. Be sure to take the deed to your house with you.
Further search for an indy shop will be well worth your time.

My money is on the upper shock mount bushing.
I agree: the dealership may not be the best choice. Their pricing says loud and clear that they do not want to see our cars in there anymore. And you're right - we can't even count on them to do the job correctly. I found that the dealer had previously mis-installed my rear wheel hub during a DIY "second" replacement.
I don't think the upper shock bushing replacement is too complicated for any decent independent mechanic to tackle. In the end - as special as these cars are - they "are" still cars. With a little guidance from the manual, if "we" can work on them, a professional mech should be able to as well.

Believe me I completely hate being forced into the dealership, I hadn't even thought of a shop, althought, I have been searching for an independent shop, one has already informed me they could and would not attempt a Jag repair...doesn't say much about their business, but nice about the whole thing. Hey , if I was 15 years younger I'd be under there myself...have done the repair years ago, not on a Jag, Opel Gt and a few others. Very familiar with the job and god knows there is enough info on You Tube to teach an eight year old...I won't risk it!
If anyone knows a shop or whatever around Tampa ,Fl., or Clearwater, Fl. let me know...please. I am aiming to let insurance pay for the job so ultimately cost isn't a huge problem but somewhat, tired of this squeaking...sounds like old springs and casket tops.
Take it easy,

Marty - check the Lower Atlantic Regional section - there is a sticky for Jag Techs in the region - have a couple of forum members that may be close enough. You could also ask for recommendations - and may get better response than in the model specific section
