It seems the mounts will arrive Monday, since they never arrived yesterday, perhaps even Tuesday. I had a chat with a buddy mailman the other day and he told me they have been severely backlogged on deliveries since the pandemic started.
Went out to garage this AM to attempt the test for movement of the spring, but neither spring would move fore/aft or in/out. decided to attempt to pry the nut and stud, but unable to get movement. It appears both of stud/nut have moved to similar positions on each side with no additional movement in last 15k to 20k miles. At first they appeared to move minutely, then after 5k to 8k the movement seemed to stabilize. Both sides appear to be stable now plus the poly pad is firm and intact. As noted just the poly inserts were $200; the mount assemblies (including metal clam shells assembled) were price around $149 with S&H included earlier. Now priced at $160 +. There were compromises made in materials somewhere? Hope the mods work well in Puerto Rico since their roads should be a great test for durability. Driving season has arrived in the South.
You have the same early generation of Welsh front upper shock mount components that my wife's 2006 XK8 does. Wayne and I installed them in early January 2016. They now have just over 23,000 miles on them and are still perfectly centered and in great shape. What is your theory regarding why yours shifted off-center after you installed them?
No idea. Perhaps Wayne or one of our other members familiar with this part has some theories. Since the movement was uniform on both sides, it was a self correcting alignment. I did use silicone as directed when doing the assembly. Steering wheel is centered and tires wearing in a even pattern now since springs replacement. Haven't a clue?????
Couple of things going on today and none involve a car. LOL
I do want to thank Kelly for the information on the spring itself and really that's good news, the big donut is still holding everything in place, and that doesn't seem to be the issue with the movement of the top of the shock.
Realllly Good news, as that was a concern that my attempt at the large donut was going to be a weak area, but that means it may not be as stressed as I was thinking, with some of the other members concerns, just a bit worried myself.
Kind of bad news on the test front, but Gian does need to finish up his test and we have waited this long. I've got my finger on the buy button for 5 sets when the news comes in with positive results, I'll push it.
Sklimii (Steve), has a couple of bell assemblies on the way here, so I should be able to put 3 complete sets together and 2 with all the parts for a DIY'r.
Then we will know how serious we can get about calling one of the bushing companies, well, after a bit of time.
What a great group. THANKS
Michael, I do believe that would be cost prohibitive for you and I'm hoping we can get things going on a return basic. If not then individuals could install the kits with the instruction provided. I would of course test fit each component before sending it out.
If it gets down to needing them from you, I will pay the shipping and add that to the product. Bottom line, don' t throw them way yet, if you have room.
Again Thanks for thinking about us.
As info, got the mount in from Steve today.
Who ever gets this one needs to send Steve a few bucks, like new, well except for the bushings, junk.
Thank you Steve for the contribution. Waiting on some results of the proto type.

No worries Wayne - just paying it forward like a few on the forum have done for me. Appreciate all your efforts to put this together

hello wayne,
i have been following this thread with great curiosity...my '05 xkr front end is down close to one and a half inches. I am a diy'er and plan on doing the springs and mounts very soon (springs on the way here).
By looking at the tops, I think my mounts are factory at 77k miles. I would, very much, like to be on your list for some of the mounts you have built and will gladly send the old mounts as a return core...do you have an idea as to how much you would like to price your mounts?
Max, Right now we are all hoping I did the right things and will order enough for kits and full replacements of the ones I have with any positive results.
I have at least 5 members waiting now, so I might be able to get the cost down with a large order.
Thanks and will add you to the list.
Surprise, Surprise.
Took Steve's Welsh mount to the table for some R&D. The bells are the same height, that's good, the washer in the middle, same but the hold groves are in the Welsh washer and may hold the bushings in place better but I think they have some issues. The holes in the middle of the washer are the same size as the crown with no corners to keep it in place. Small issue there compared to what I found inside.
Biggest surprise, it was the bottom bushing in the bell that was self destructing and the top one had already cut the top lip of the one around the hole.
On some of my earlier work, we (Jim ( Wymjym) had noticed sharp edges in the bottom of the bells. Both stock and Welsh had the same problem.
When you look at the pictures, it's so obvious the bushing are cut in half and the top one was not far from being just as bad.
The sponge ones from the original mounts would hold up a bit better but we all have seen not completely. The screwdriver points to the really bad edge.
So any one replacing their mounts, you need to make sure the sharp edge is taken off, even if you have to take it apart. sorry.
The pictures of the mounts show the same height and disintegration inside the top. Notice the bottom lip was cut off and the top one was not far behind.
Oh, the edge would cut your finger if you applied and pressure around it. So what do you think happens as many up and downs of the shock on a 10 mile trip. No chance, but the material was nothing like any shock mount on a regular one with big cavity washer holding it together.
Feeling better about my system all the time.
No Gian, already done.
I do bet that grinding teeth as a daily thing would make you a lot better at it than me. LOL
Finish up the exam and lets see what we have.

Will do. The exam was moved to this Thursday. I have not yet received the parts, the same goes for the silicon grease for the poly bushes and the shims I ordered to replace the corroded ones for the upper control arm bushes. It seems they are still backlogged at my local post office.
Really good news on that front, now get your a.. in there a ace that exam.
Good Luck.
Amazing effort. You certainly could be in business or at least license your design. I’d be interested in being on your list to get a set as I’ll need to replace my setup very shortly.
A little bit of bad news, the package has not been delivered yet. Tomorrow I'm going to the Post Office with the tracking number to see what's up. It's been "out for delivery" since yesterday. They seem to be ridiculously delayed at the Post Office.
