Default Trans fill plug??

Hello all,

Well, things were going well with my trans sleeve kit install until I realized I hadn't removed the fill plug yet. Well, you guessed it, I stripped it out and are now going for the drill and extract method. Hopefully I will be done tomorrow with the help of many threads. My question is what do I need to order for parts. I searched for 2006 Jaguar Trans Fill Plug and nothing comes up. There are many drain plugs available, but I don't see a fill plug. Any suggestions?

This thread may help if you haven't come across it:

The current Jaguar part # is C2C38965. It's available from the dealer if you have deep pockets:
https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic...ller-plug.html

Some folks here mention the CTSC as being a good, helpful source of ZF parts and information.

It's in the ZF catalogue as a M18x1.5 'screw plug' with 8mm hex head. Unfortunately no part # is given.
The 6HP26 was used by a variety of manufacturers (BMW, Ford, Lincoln, etc.) so you may be able to source one from a breaker. Alternatively, I believe it's the same fill plug as the 5HP24 which does have a part # 0636 308 025

Torque figure is 35Nm

I would avoid drilling in case any shards escape into the internals.

Good luck!

Don't ask me how I know that you'll never make that mistake again.

So it dont happen to you or others I made a removal tool.....Take a 8 in length of 1/4 x 1 1/2 bar ( not critical) . Drill a hole near one end for the suitable hex key . and weld an inch of hex sticking out the hole.
Fit tool to gearbox plug and wack with a 4 lb hammer towards the front.

Default Job complete.

All is well. The plug has been replaced and the leaks from the trans are done. Shifts way smoother than before. Not sure what maniac decided that filling the trans through the side while the engine is running and with only a couple inches clearance from a hot exhaust pipe was a good idea, but the job is done. Thanks everyone for the help. Next stop, oil pan.

Well done.

How did you remove the fill plug in the end?
