Default transmission question?

Hear lately sometime when I move the selector from park to reverse nothing happens. However all I need to do is go from either reverse back to park and then back to reverse or from reverse to neutral back to reverse. Then it will go into gear. I want to think it is some sort of bad/dirty contact in the selector or something simple. I cannot afford any major events right now. Any ideas guys.

No codes nothing on the display either.

Well I guess i have to answer my own questions now. I spoke with the service writer at Jaguar about my issue. He suggested bringing the car in and have the linkage adjusted. Basically he said they have seen this problem with the S & X types but not to many on the XK's but that is not to say that it doesn't happen. He felt pretty confident that it was a linkage adjustment because I told him the shift sequences were spot on. He estimated it would be no more that and hour but probable only a 30 minute job. If that is the problem. I'll keep you all posted.

Yes you are correct! Had my sons 2000 S-Type adjusted and it works just fine. I had the same question I posted on the S-Type page and got no answers so I was as concerned as you were. You are on the right track.

Tim,

Adjusting the linkage was not $400.00. I paid near that when I had the fluid and filter done on my 99xk8. My son paid $75.00 for the cable adjustment. Get a second opinion!!!

Just got this shift problem answered. Required a new cable the old one was stretched. Don't ask me how but none the less. $485.00 P & L. dealer.
