At a recent meet I saw a umbrella holder in a guys car. It was fitted to his trunk lid. (We call it a boot in the UK). The official ones are rather expensive for what they entail so I decided to make my own version.
A picture of the finished item below, before final trimming. Cost $1

I haven't been to Malvern for some years and am surprised to learn you now use US Dollars.
The JLM20415 Umbrella strap kit is no longer available and has been superseded by the P/N C2C5101.
Both Jaguar Classic Parts UK and David Manners are quoting 28.01 UKP including tax. Forum Sponsor S N G Barratt in the US quotes $37.34. Unusually this is almost identical to the UK cost as Jaguar parts prices in the US are often considerably higher.
I don't think that pattern of umbrella is still available from Aspinal of London but it was around 150 UKP.
Why would an umbrella strapped to the XK8's trunk lid be useful if it was already raining very hard? I always keep my umbrella inside the car for a rainy day...

I agree with your logic and on a rainy day I usually remove my brolly from the boot lid and carry it with me. In the past, I have found that a brolly in the boot/trunk gets buried under a pile of other things and having it attached to the lid just makes it immediately accessible. In addition, at car shows, people think it looks just so cool!
Great idea the diy approach. Have just copied your idea but with a minor improvement. No need to buy 2 types of velcro and stick em together as they make double sided velcro, ie hook on one side loop on the other.
It rains so regularly here and I never thought of doing this. This is genius, although, it would be even better if I could stick the umbrella inside the door jamb like Rolls Royce’s do.

150 UKP for an umbrella ? That's almost $200. Does it shoot poison pellets, or fly when the west wind blows ?
I am flattered to know some of you guys read my posts. Even better use them!! Thanks for the 'like' etc clicks. Always appreciated. To be honest I had forgotten about the umbrella post till today!
As a footnote if my brolly cost me £150 pounds UK I would not want to get it wet! My brolly is a genuine Jag one cost £28 and even though its a good one I still thought that was expensive.
I too saw a trunk mounted umbrella at a British car show. I bought the straps and clips together for about $25 from Welsh along with a Jaguar branded umbrella. Installed it today using a tool I got from local auto parts store. The head broke off one plastic clip but I managed to remove it with pliers. Looks great, I’m very happy with it.
frankc,
Great, simple, solution to an ongoing problem. All I have to do now is see if my official UGA brolly will fit in the allotted area(too long??). A little Red & Black will add nicely to the colour scheme of my trunk(Boot).
Regarding your extra long brolly have you thought about going from corner to corner instead of across? You only need change one of the clips to higher up?
