Default Using a battery tender for my xk8

I just purchased a 2004 xk8 conv. I want to use a trickle charge unit on the battery. how do I get the lights in the trunk to go off so I won't drain the battery at the same time I'm trying to maintain the charge.

Connect the charger under the hood to the fuse panel feeds

I connect mine in trunk and the lid goes down low enough to turn the lights off. They should turn off in time, even if the lid isn't low enough, though.

+1

I did the same with my two XK8's.

Some members have left their phone inside recording a video clip to prove the light actually does go off when you put the lid down without closing it fully.

I thought it was much more fun to persuade my wife to climb inside and watch. If your face even starts to crack a smile in the next 24 hours after that, you're lost.

I just close the trunk on the thinner leads, leave the charger sitting outside of the car

I just push the latching mechanism. That turns the power off to the light. Then I lower the trunk lightly. I unplug the trickle charger when I need the car and just leave it in the trunk and then hit the unlock button on the trunk lid then close the trunk.

LOL! I'm lost.

Up in Alaska I was told that the way some guys can tell if a woman is worth marrying is that they put their girlfriend and their dog in the trunk. After a while they open the trunk. If the woman is as happy to see them as the dog is, then she passes the test and is marriage material.

Yep....did the wife bit...went for a cuppa....screamed at me for the next 3hrs, decided the only safe way was to take the lamps out!

I simply close the trunk lid. The weatherstrip is pliable enough to allow for the tender cord. Another option would be to "trip" the latch using a small screwdriver etc, mimicking a closure, which shuts the light off. Then you can leave the trunk lid open. Just don't forget to "open" the trunk latch before shutting the lid again!

Other than keeping the Mice out, there is no need to close the Trunk (Boot) Lid completely during Storage when using a Battery Tender.

The lamps will extinguish after a short delay even if the Lid is Not Latched!
