Default VVT on my 1997 XK8

Do all XK8's have variable valve timing or is this an optional engine accessory? How do I tell if I do (or don't) have it?
Thanks,
Dennis

They all do . I had the cam cover off mine yesterday and its there . You will see a connector at the front of each bank which controls it/them

AJ26 uses TWO STAGE VVT units (retard and advance) and the AJ27 uses CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE VVT units.

Pistnbroke,
Thanks for the reply. Are these electrically controlled or oil pressure controlled?
Thanks,
Dennis

Motorcarman,
Thanks for the info. How do I tell which engine I have? Is it by year or some other identifier?
Thanks,
Dennis

l believe the quick and easy way is ;

Coils 2 wire AJ26, 4 wire AJ27
AJ26 has large vacuum canister for the CC by throttle body AJ27 does not

If you have a 97 you should have an AJ26. The VVT will be in the timing cover. On the AJ27 the VVT is in the cam cover.
