Default Water in gas cap area???

I washed the XK8 today. When done I opened the lid over the gas cap and there was a pool of water. I used paper towels to absorb all of it. Looks like there is a drain hole underneath the gas cap. Is that a drain hole?

If so, I guess it is clogged up. Where does the water drain too?

Any ideas regarding how to clear the drain so it will work?

Thanks!!!

There is a lift out screen (or should be).

There is no screen. Must be blocked with something.

My error. There is a perforated plastic square over the drain on my 06. My XJ6 had the lift out screen. Yours must have gone adrift at some time in the past.

Blow it out with compressed air. Dont leave it as its the fastest way to get water in the tank especially with old gas cap seals or nicked fill tubes

I used a wire clothes hanger on mine after Hurricane Maria. Worked a peach.
