Default Water leak on start up!

Hmm... So when I start my 2000 XKR, UK model it dumps coolant, about 20-50ml I reckon, the leak is located between engine and firewall on the drivers side back of engine just behind the front tyre, that area. You can drive 100 miles pull up and no leaks or drips. Its hard to see where it's coming from to be fair but kind of looks like the route to the overflow tank but I could be wrong? It's annoying forever topping it up and getting worse, but does not leak when hot, I am guess some alloy corrosion on a pipe fitting somewhere but it's such a bugger to source, anyone had this?
I am rebuilding my supercharger soon and replacing the valley hoses might be able to see more when it's bits I guess, been searching this one out for years.
Then there's my airbag fault, finally changed the sensor only to discover it also has a 12 error, from other posts looks like the control module, would be the expensive bit, anyway any advice about that too chaps, I love this car already done so much work on it but its killing me slowly lol.

Possibly the PITA 'Norma' connector on the octopus? Sat conveniently over the RHS cat so any drips will vapourise when it's hot.

Good time to inspect when you do the valley hoses.

That's a lot of coolant to lose each time. I think Mike is right with his diagnosis.

There is a slim possibility that the pipe between the Expansion Tank and the Atmospheric Recovery Bottle is damaged or displaced which could dump coolant on the engine warm up or cool down cycle.

Is it actually right behind the front tire, in the wheel well? If so, it is the overflow tank area. Take the tire off, and then the well liner off (4 different kind of fasteners, if you can believe it!). The tank is in a recess behind the wheel. There is a discharge hose for overflow. Maybe that tank is just too full with you constantly topping it off.

Not completely positive how it works, but I believe that under pressure (hot), coolant overflows to that tank based on the cap. When cooling, the overflow fluid is supposed to be sucked back in the main system. Maybe throw a cheap tank pressure cap for starters.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

My guess is that your pressure cap is bad and letting too much fluid out of the tank on the start up surge. It is overflowing your recovery bottle.

Yes I reckon he's right too, as occasionally when running in traffic you can smell coolant steam, which must be the drip on the cat and none visible on the floor, well I hope to find that out for sure when I strip off and rebuild the supercharger and replace the valley hoses.

Cheers everyone all good stuff there

I think that is the least likely but once I have done all the other work I will know and if not it will be the cap next.

I recently had a leak from the Norma fitting above the cat on the right side. I was unable to locate it until I did a pressure test. It seals to the metal pipe with a o-ring and the leak is often so small that the coolant evaporates when the engine is hot, as michaelh suggests.
