Thank You Charlie.

Soon to be a proud owner of an 04 xk8 and this is the first forum post I've read....

Wow.

Now I'm not sure if I'm more anxious to start driving
or to take the console out.

When I did my earlier car with the Parrot CK3000, I left the relay pack on the unit as I did not have a good schematic of the blue box pin out. Parrot diagram from tech support is erroneous. I had to figure it out and confirmed what Charles concluded.

Red audio + , white audio -, black ground, yellow +12v, blue goes to ground when call is made. There is no amplification of the audio lines in the relay box.

Thought someone might find it worth looking into.
This is really quite interesting and eliminates the need for external controls. Unfortunately, their website leaves something to be desired in the information department.

I've always thought that a touchscreen would be the ultimate control retrofit. My company installs Control4 automation systems in residences and one of the projects rattling around by head is the feasibility of replacing the standard display with a Control4 touchscreen. This, and a small Control4 HC-250 controller in the trunk would give almost endless possibilities.

Enough: Merry Christmas everyone!

This is a fantastic install.

I have been loving every minute owing my xk8 but the SAT NAV / Stereo is a real let down.

Can anyone in the UK do such an installation but with touch screen shown? I live in London but would be happy to travel nationally for such a nice upgrade.

Thanks

Thanks. The control is currently through the phone itself, not a touch screen, and the Nav display just mirrors everything. That was the primary reason for choosing the HDMI interface, was the mirroring of the display for everything rather than just for playing videos and such.

I had hoped that the music controls could be done through the charger buttons but when using the HDMI adapter, the control signals are lost and only the charging function works. The music controls on the phone are acceptable and on longer trips I subcontract phone/GPS usage to my lovely navigatress.

The adapter harness from WhiteXKR was a big time save and if you want to repurpose the Nav screen I highly recommend it.

The touch screen is an interesting idea, and something I didn't know existed at the time. I'm caught up in some performance upgrades at the moment but if someone wants to write up a touch screen how-to I would certainly be interested to read about it.

Anyone know anything about moding the infotainment screen on a 2011 XKR? No backup camera on the 2011's. It would also be nice to use the screen, also, as a monitor for my mobile devices. Music streaming through Bluetooth would be great too with out the need to physically connect my iphone every time I get in the car. Great job on your mods. Cheers.

You're more than welcome to have a look at my recent install, I'm based in East London. Pics are here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-80437/page2/

I followed a lot of good advice from this forum. I too wanted a touch screen replacement for the out dated sat nav, but there isn't a simple solution currently, although DesignXKR are working on one.

My stereo allows me to use my ipod, hook up to my phone via BT and I've since installed the steering wheel remote and upgraded the front speakers to components with separate crossover and tweeters.

Sounds lovely. I also have the clock on the sat nav working too.

How did you talk your wife into letting you park the car in the kitchen?

DGL, though we have some members who are more than qualified to explore that option for you, they have focused their efforts on the 97-2006 models since that is what they own. What we (xk8-xkr w/ nav screens) have done is installed a video switch that gets a second video feed (ie. phone, camera, gps, etc) that simply bypasses the current screen (after we flip the switch manually, of course). The switch we use (a PAC VCI) does have a design function that will allow automatic switching of the source, so instead of a toggle switch, it can be tied to the tranny's Reverse signal and display the backup camera source w/o the driver lifting a finger. For doing more than one video feed, you'll have to find a switch with more inputs and a way to toggle between them. I'm surprised the 2007+ XK members haven't found a way to tackle this yet.

Best of luck!

I made a logical argument. "You get to keep your shoe collection in the house so..."

I know its been a while, but your solution should still work on more recent i-phones. I've put this project on my bucket list. Many thanks

Quite right. Not too long ago I changed to an iPhone6 and all I had to do was upgrade the HDMI adapter and charger to the lighting connector type.

ccfulton, Would you consider putting together 5 or 6 hardware kits for sale? I would buy one for sure.

Another of our forum members WhiteXKR makes the adapter harness for the Nav Screen.
TheJagWrangler - Home - About Us

Beyond that, it's just a matter of getting an HDMI to component video converter on eBay and then installation.
