Default Window closing/opening issue

Hi all, I am new to this forum. Apologies if this is a standard question that has been answered many times. I have a low mileage XK8. It has been off road but back on as of today. When I open the door the window drops, but won't return. I've tried calibrating by dropping all the way, waiting for the click and raising again. Sadly that doesn't reset as it should. The window just drops on opening and won't go back up on closing. Any clues? And if it needs someone who does this kind of thing do you have any recommendations near Newbury? I daren't drop the roof as I'm afraid it won't return to the closed position.

I'll put money on your battery failing or needing charged.

The battery has been changed. The old battery may have been the cause of the problem but the new battery hasn't been the solution.

Did you reset up and down? Your description sounds like you just did the down setting.

I think that may well have addressed the issue. Thank you.

Yes, it needs the top and bottom limit setting - it makes a change to have something easy to fix on here.

Is there a similar calibration step for the roof? I'm nervous of putting it down until I feel confident of putting it back up.

All problems with the convertible roof come from putting it down or up. If you just leave it in one position or the other , then you won’t have any issues…….

…….sorry, it’s late and I’m not thinking clearly. Poor humor.

Welcome to the forum.

if you search “green shower” then you
will have a good overview of the issues associated with the convertible mechanism.

PS: keep your new battery on a battery tender whenever the car is unused overnight or longer. The battery will last longer and the electrical gremlins that plague these cars will seldom visit you.

And, not for nothing, but I always make sure the door is closed and the top is up when I set the window's upper limit on my convertible.

Similarly, us coupe owners have to have the door closed before the adjustment process. I’m not sure what would happen if I tried it with the door open, but I’m not going to find out.
