Default Wonder Glue

Recently had problems with the high stop light cover flapping in the wind. Disassembly revealed a broken plastic tab was the culprit and figured that buying a new one would entail having to get it painted - pain. So I set about figuring how to repair it.

I found some on-line references to a plastic repair epoxy that ACE hardware carries and sceptically tried it. Gave it the full 24 hours to set and cure and the repair was bulletproof!

I can't say how much this glue has impressed me. I've got 30+ years of playing with bikes and cars and NEVER found anything that worked on plaastic - typically the repair falls apart the minute you touch it, but this stuff is the Mutt's Nuts and thought I'd pass this on, given the plethora of plastic on the XKs.

Cheers,
Hamish

Not to change the subject, but in the spirit of quick fixes.....

I just removed paint from the front of my car with WD40.

My husband bumped into the white-painted bookcase in our garage and put a big white mark on the front corner, the car is Pacific Blue, so it really stood out. I've been trying to get it off for a few weeks, when I got one of those e-mails that circulates, this one regarding all the things you can do with WD40. It took a little rubbing, but WD40 did take the paint off and the finish wasn't hurt.

For what it's worth....

+1 on the plastic epoxy.
I've used it to fix my XJ40 glovebox door when the stiff hinges caused it to crack, reattach a return nipple I broke off my HSMO tank, and fix a crack in my pool skimmer.
Can't remember the brand, but got it at Menards.

Odd thing is that it isn't on the regular ACE site, but can be found here:

http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/Pro...aspx?SKU=17394

Part number is 17394 - Highly recommended!

Hamish, Thanks, I'll pick some up, as I always have misc. repair jobs requiring strong cements of some sort.

To Ann: That sounds like a great tip. I have a non-Jag related project that I'll try it on today.........thanks!
Regards,
Brian

Pacific Blue . . . one of the best colors.
